why the f*** would I listen to blackalicious, doomtree, odd nosdam, the entirety of anticon label now that we're in the golden age of underground hip-hop and dont nobody cares for dumb transitional boom bap stuff over witty lyrics.

each time these guys stepped left it would sound either extremely cheesy or uninteresting. the entirety of 00s underground can go save for obvious el-p aesop rock DOOM albums and a few gems here and there

like if youre still bumping these guys you either a certified f***ing weirdo or youre in ur 30s and never moved out of ohio

¿uknowhatimsayin washes 97% of underground hip-hop from late 90s up to early 10s. SRS washes 100% of that

sLUms, mutant academy, LA beat scene, quelle chris & affiliates, mach-hommy and affiliates, backwoodz studios, endless Griselda "clones". there's a lot going on in the underground now and almost nothing sounds alike no matter where you look

my early years of listening to rap consisted of TRshady forum underground lyrical miracle crap.

Not only is the music cringe by today standards due to the boom bap production but the mixing makes allot of the catalogue unlistenable.

Similar problem with some of Joe Budden’s projects which were actually hard but had 0 mixing to speak of.

hard agree on mixing problems. I guess it wasn't easy getting studio time when you weren't popping so I cant really blame them. Mood Muzik could be a mainstream classic if not for radio level mixing

They would definitely be up there with the best of them but i don’t think they wash the classics from doom, Blu, and currensy

And true I guess I don’t always think of even griselda as “underground” anymore. I feel what you’re saying but I also don’t think the griselda movement is that special, like using your logic, why would I listen to that if I can listen to 90s grimy boom bap

It’s true man, the ratio of quality difference wasn’t as big and we all listened to everything through iPod earphones back then.

These days it’s much harder to get past and appreciate

I recon members in the early - mid 20’s range probably had a stage of peeping underground rap at some point or other

    Never had one

I consider DOOM one of the goats of hip hop in general so he's just up there with all the legends, his beats/cover art/flow/etc are on another level than all those boring underground dudes.
