    Goo

    Never had one

I consider DOOM one of the goats of hip hop in general so he's just up there with all the legends, his beats/cover art/flow/etc are on another level than all those boring underground dudes.

I never had a stage like Op is talking about but the 08-12 “underground” was one of my favorite eras as far as a lot of great mixtapes from artists who werent huge in the mainstream. There was a lot of variety though it’s not like it was some lyrical miracle s*** for the most part. If I think about it maybe early 2000s underground was worse

name one Atmosphere album that's popping past the first two

I thought the 3rd or 4th was a lot of people’s favorite. And Lemons was a relatively big release, that’s what got me into them. Kinda cheesy today but I think I’m taking it over Aesop Rock

Those are both great, and Seven’s Travels too is incredible, really great from front to back.

I merely draw a line in the sand for those in the know

if you dont know the names 1) dont bother its not worth it 2) how it feels starting listening to hip-hop in 2016

why the f*** would I listen to blackalicious, doomtree, odd nosdam, the entirety of anticon label now that we're in the golden age of underground hip-hop and dont nobody cares for dumb transitional boom bap stuff over witty lyrics.

each time these guys stepped left it would sound either extremely cheesy or uninteresting. the entirety of 00s underground can go save for obvious el-p aesop rock DOOM albums and a few gems here and there

like if youre still bumping these guys you either a certified f***ing weirdo or youre in ur 30s and never moved out of ohio

bruh i feel you, i used to listen to anticon heavy
i see where you're coming from.... listening to strictly underground hip hop is very uninteresting, nobody knows who the f*** any of these people are lol i'm actually surprised theres someone on here mentioning anticon

Deep Puddle Dynamics is the only thing I can still tolerate. rip Alias and respect to the hustle but damn the whole wave was such a massive snoozefest its kinda nuts looking back at it 15+ yrs later

True I think I gave it a half listen once and it didn’t really stick. Might have to be in the right place for a lot of that stuff though, I think I went in expecting something more left

Deep Puddle Dynamics a pretty dope project, just unique in how they all came together. Still can be boring if I’m not in the mood though

I feel what you’re saying but who’s to say some of the underground stuff today won’t age poorly too? Out of context the slums sound can obviously be perceived as boring at times. And I feel like you’re mostly talking about underground in the early 2000s, the second half was what I would call a golden age of underground. Really like 07-12

RIP Alias forsure, i was gonna mention!!
but yeah i mean DPD was definitely a moment in time....
i totally feel you with this thread brother, i think alot of people who invest themselves into the underground rap scene get carried away and start to alienate themselves away from what's actually going on in the world because that's what the underground is always preaching....
