Sustainability is a word I hear a lot when looking at clothing brands, it seems like every large fashion label wants to be "sustainable". Looking past repurposed clothing / diy fashion, idk how possible it is for a small brand to be truly sustainable / ethical. Sourcing the right fabric & finding an ethical manufacturer sounds great & should be the path a brand takes, but too my understanding it's not possible without serious investment. Coming up, I feel like you are pressured to finesse & cut costs in order to bring your vision / potential to life, & when the money finally comes in you can localize your outsourcing or use better fabric. Better fabric in terms of being "ethically made", you can get what is perceivable as "quality" fabric for cheap.
I'm definitely pretty ignorant on this subject & hope somebody responds w/ a different experience, but I feel like true "Sustainability" in manufacturing is only accessible to wealthy brands / designers.

patagonia.com.au/pages/let-my-people-go-surfing Great read. It may seem like a giant marketing essay but I think Patagonia has a proven track record, enough so that I appreciate the values Yvon has spread throughout such a large company. It's just interesting to see the decisions he's had to go through too
It's available on libgen if you guys dont wanna pay

It's funny how my go to brands say that they're ethical but are owned by none other than H&M.

Really like KOTN for sustainable practices. They use Egyptian cotton and contribute back to the region directly by building and funding schools. Read about it in the about section.
