Can someone explain how ATN can "call" the election? Them calling it in favour of Menken doesn't make the actual vote count true. So how does that whole thing work?

I think it’s more so perception. Since that thing happened in wisconsin the election was already looking sketchy, now ATN a heavyweight syndicate calling the election, will influence a lot of other outlets to follow and at that point who’s going to put in all that work to take that to trial, challenge it, and reverse it, ultimately making America look like a joke.

i'm not well versed on how elections work in America but the actual vote count is the actual vote count, ie, hard numbers. how can ATN "calling" the election contest with the actual count?

America doesn’t have a popular vote, we have an electoral college vote. So each state has a certain amount of votes out of 538. The first to reach 270 wins. Those electoral college votes are determined by the popular vote in each individual state. The bigger the population, the more electoral college votes that a state has.

Now in terms of what ATN did, they called Wisconsin’s votes for Menken before the final vote tally came in. Now that normally happens based on the lead one candidate may have over another.

One example being Joe Biden pulling ahead by a large margin in New York early on and CNN calling it for him. They do that based on where the remaining votes seem to be coming from. If the majority of the remaining votes that haven’t been counted are coming from New York City, a democrat heavy area, and Biden already has a big lead, it would be safe to call that state for Biden.

Now when states are close and are really down to a few throws and votes, it’s too close to call. For example, in the last presidential election Georgia was one of those states. One election night, Trump pulled ahead of Biden when they counted all of the smaller rural counties, but not ahead enough for networks to call it for Trump. The vast majority of the remaining votes that needed to be counted were in Atlanta. Once all of the votes were counted, Georgia ended up going for Biden after the heavy democratic votes from Atlanta were counted.

Now in the case of Wisconsin, the race was very close. At one point each man being tied or one point away from each other. Once Arizona was called for Menken, he should have only been one point up. But ATN calling Wisconsin, a state in where the majority of the remaining votes were coming from democrat heavy Milwaukee, put Menken over 270 at ATN but other networks haven’t called it because of the fire that destroyed many of the ballots. Something like that hasn’t happened in American politics in real life (thank god but 2024 anything could happen lmao), but there is still a process to be done.

ATN being a major news network (like Fox), could be seen as valid. Because no matter the politics of its hosts, at the end of the day in the landscape of major news networks, Fox is seen as a legitimate network that isn’t so far right to where they could do what they want. Then calling it for Menken is basically crowning him president in the public’s view. It’s a movie that, if the votes in Wisconsin turn out to change the sway to Jiminez, ATN would essentially be delegitimized as a network and it will cause chaos in the US.

Roman did it to draw favor with Menken either way. And get his supporters to be all in on ATN, a reverse of what Shiv and maybe Ken wanted to do with the network and that was to go a little more left, this pushed them off the cliff into the hard right.
