It's basically John My Beloved and Oh God Where Are You Now smashed together.
Reach Out is incredible, honestly one of his best songs and that's saying a lot.
yea song gave me michigan vibes all over tbh
sounds super promising!
thankful that he keeps blessing us even after the ascension last year
What's his best project?
I think Carrie & Lowell followed by Michigan
Most would probably say Illinois
Not lying, these 2 new songs prob my favorite stuff he’s done since Illinois (outside of some fantastic tracks like Mystery of Love, Should’ve known better and Vesuvius)
But I loved the duet he did on Illinois and this stuff seems to follow the instrumentations he was doing on his best work (Michigan and Illinois) while implementing the duet structure
WTF THESE NEW SONGS
I thought it was a collab album meaning more ambient stuff. And I couldn’t really stand the ascension
These are legit two of his best songs. Illinois, Michigan vibes
Is the whole album gonna be this good??? is the rest instrumental???

Sounds like a song that he could’ve easily dropped in 2017 alongside on the Greatest Gift
Just beautifully written and sounding
If you’d like to go for another calm album, go for Seven Swans or even Michigan. I’d however suggest you to go for Illinois first, which can be very bombastic and has so much going on during every song.
Also, don’t skip All Delighted People. His 3rd best project imho
Hey I always forget to get back to you.
I listened to Illinois the other day whilst cooking.
I know I missed a lot of the lyrical content, seem very heavy at times(a lot of biblical stuff that I barely caught) but I mostly paid attention to his voice and music, not the actual text.
Its kind of a weird project in terms of sound.I'm only familiar with his acoustic, mellow stuff,so to hear him on these grand instrumentals felt really odd but in a good way.
The album itself is a bit too stretched out but the highs are HIGH,some amazing music on there.
I still think I prefer his more mellow stuff but I'm gonna come back to this again for sure.
Gonna listen to the other two you mentioned!

Man, glad to hear that you liked it. To really get a nice feel of this album, I recommend you to just pull up Genius & read the lyrics and annotations while listening. Besides biblical stuff, also a lot of history and sexuality in the mix.
Have fun with the rest
I want to go on a Sufjan binge right now given the dark place im in. but I think it might be more detrimental than healing. ima be crying like a mf
I actually have been avoiding cuts from C&L lately because the last time i listened that album albsolutely destroyed me.
hate that he does this s***. at least the rollout wasn't as long as Sometimes I Might Be Introvert

it's good to get those emotions out tbh

Felt like a whole eternity bro lol. But worth the wait. Easily one of my fav albums of 2021

Youre right. Im just like afraid of my emotions now i guess. i spent most of 2020 crying, and now its like i cant cry anymore since i lost my dad this year. i cried once a few weeks ago and it hurt so much and im terrified of doing it again
