i mean it's pretty good mate idk
in rainbows is my fav of theirs tho that's their opus opus
It may seem hyperbolic but it changed the entire landscape of rock at that time, and brought so many new sounds to a mainstream level. It also was such a left field change for Radiohead's image. Within that context, it's very impressive.
hypothetically you could make the same argument for No Surprises which is crazy
You really can, I remember being a kid and those videos blew my mind. They’ve always had excellent visuals though, Just was also a favorite of mine when I was young
The people that dfw post-Kid A radiohead just tack all of radiohead’s post-Kid A accolades onto OKC. Lmao
true
Radiohead one of those rare bands that just got progressively better with time. A Moon Shaped Pool is a testament of that
Honestly inspiring
i’m british bare means “a lot”. so read it as “a lot of influence”
Ahhhh ok.
When I was 19 I was seeing this British girl that moved here for the summer, we were texting one night and idr what I said but she replied "I'm bare slow forgive me" I never responded to her after that message but I'm glad I know what that means now
Thread gonna make me listen to Radiohead for the first time in a couple years wild stuff

Bro all week i’ve been trying to wrap my head around Identikit alone. Insannnnnnnely complex song. You can really hear everyone’s individual contributions most fervently on AMSP, let alone the fact that Jonny went full Penderecki. 3rd favorite without hesitation.

You can do the album (45 mins) or the netflix special (3 songs - 15 mins). I’d say start with the netflix special

And now I see you messing me around
I don't want to know
That's exactly it man and the result is one of their most sonically pleasing albums imo. It's their most cinematic as well, listening to it completly transports me into the world they painted with sounds and melody. Hard to describe into words but it has a very unique "mood" to it. The Daydreaming video encapsulates that feeling well
What specific feelings for you? Someone else mentioned the fear of what internet meant for future society and the disillusionment with government.
it's not the most groundbreaking album ever or anything crazy like that. but it's absolutely one of the masterpieces of alternative rock, and though it's arguably not their most creative or experimental album its style still remains unique both within their discography and the genre as a whole. There's also a good amount of variety within the album itself and a lot of the tracks offer completely different things. The individual performances, songwriting, production are all outstanding and it's just really well made. Its scope and ambition also stood out from a lot of the alternative and indie rock that came out in the few years before. although for some people's tastes that creativity comes off as pretentious which they don't like, similar to people who dislike progressive rock. even though i don't think it reinvented the wheel I think it was really effective in blending rock, a genre that wasn't exactly brand new at that point, with modernity while still completely retaining the genre's core essence. I don't think this necessarily makes it superior to something that's more backward-looking, but it seems a lot more "modern" and of our current era than a lot of their contemporaries
significant part of its legacy is also its cultural relevance lyrically/thematically, it really represents the zeitgeist of not only its time period but the future as well with the concepts of technology, alienation, political climate etc. the relevance isn't going away any time soon. You could call it an essential album of the 21st century even though it came out in 1997
also keep in mind I'm not a Radiohead stan or anything like that, I'd still probably call them one of the most overrated bands ever even though I'm a big fan. But OK Computer really does deserve its status as a major masterpiece, definitely stands above the rest of their discography imo.
