This generation is still alive. They tried whites-only religious private schools after this but failed and then pivoted to abortion and created the modern Religious Right which got Reagan into power and so on, you get the drift.
Yes. That’s how it’s always worked and that’s how it should be. A business can decide who they want to serve just like we as a people can decide if we want to support a business that does that. This should not be a legal matter.
Both parties are wrong in this thread. Businesses still have to serve customers products regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. This specific ruling allows companies who are providing a service that could be considered speed (speech writing, being commissioned to write a story, or in this case, creating a website and writing specific details about a couple) to decide if they want to serve someone they disagree with or not. I’m pansexual/non-binary so if anything I should lean on the outrage side. If the person were discriminating and just selling beers, cakes, products at Hobby Lobby - that wouldn’t be allowed. The conservative justices implied so themselves. I think the ruling is not nuanced enough - and I disagree with some of the reasoning behind this ruling. But like.
Do you agree with the banning of "Whites Only" signs on private businesses as described in the Civil Rights Act of 1964?
No
A private business should be free to hold any sign they want whether that says “whites only”, “blacks only”, or “gays only”
They’re free to do that just like any of us are free to report that to the news, protest it, or not support it.
The government should not meddle with private enterprises unless what they are doing starts to interfere with public property or is a public crime.
how do you talk with someone that takes "free enterprise" to such an extreme that they approve of blatant racism and discrimination as long as its a part of a private business's daily operation? like where do you even go from there? this country and this site is done
Takes a certain level of delusion to still have faith in America and its political systems
“Freedom at any cost” is stupid. I understand the free speech argument - as long as it doesn’t apply to products or non-speech related services. People should still be required to serve meals - provide equal accommodations in public spaces to gays.
they always back themselves into a corner, oh well they wanted it so f*** em
A brick in the dead of night will probably become a customary song and dance with this s***.
Shame that we live in the most heavily armed nation on the planet and your average retail employee has to live under the fear of that fact more than any of our political leaders.
will someone please spare a thought for the feelings of those poor unelected elder kings with lifetime reign? all of this ire is making them sad

“we do not mistake this plainly heartfelt disagreement for disparagement. It is important that the public not be misled either. Any such misperception would be harmful to this institution and our country.”
Says man who has slow-crawled this institution and country to a Christo-fascist hellhole run by corporations
Hope nothing but eternal suffering on these gabagools
I’m saying tho, voting for congress or president is not as important anymore.
Voting for those who elect the Supreme Court has grown so much in significance (yes I know what that means)
In Iran the elders form the "Assembly of Experts"
The Chief Console is Ahmad Janati who is 96
@gabapentin my bad for being late and I hope this doesn't sound dumb as s*** but how tf did 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis even happen
I heard that Lorie and her lawyers were capping a ton but I'm just now looking into this so I wanted to ask

Are you referring to the request someone sent for her to make a website that was apparently totally fake using someone else's information? My understanding is that was incidental to how she had standing; she wanted a pre-enforcement challenge so nobody could in future make her make one. which is obviously lame but for standing purposes suffices

Thanks for breaking this down

Easy to say this when you’re likely to not be affected by it.

Well it’s what’s right and fair to both the private business and the public
If the government can dictate how a private business acts, what’s stopping them from forcing us to act a certain way in the privacy of our homes?
he still in here standing firm on this "pro business" bullshit huh. need that hand pic stat
