Badges usually run up over $500 (wristbands around $100 - 150) though usually if you work for a publication/media outlet/company/etc that is covering the event or has involvement/brand activation, more often than not they buy their employees the credentials (plus you can also get a badge for free if you volunteer). Like, it's not just some big ass party for college kids to do during spring break, it's a massive professional networking conference across the fields of education, tech, film, and music. That plus there are a s***load of businesses and venues here in Austin that depend on the money SX brings in (~$350m for the city) to make it for much of the year, and it's already difficult as it is for entities to operate here with the ever increasing rent prices.

I know this might be funny looking from the outside and I get that, but for lack of a better phrase, a lot of local workers might be really f***ed because of this

Not to come off dismissing this, because that is a pretty deal

But that sounds like an issue that a lot of big budget productions face. Isn't the same thing happening to E3 and the Olympics? You should look up the story of a game called "Kingdoms of Amalur" and how an how a city was depending on that game to sell well.

Please don’t confuse SXSW with Coachella, SXSW is a MAJOR networking opportunity for young breaking/unsigned artists and a lot of people who are NOT rich are getting screwed by this

    Understandable take

I know many artists personally who were going for the first time and now can’t go and network and meet a booking agent or a manager or new artists to collab or perform in front of the right label exec. S*** blows. SXSW is arguably more important for artists than fans
