i got laid off from my last company and i think my current company is heading towards layoffs
i saw a dude on blind got layed off from 3 consecutive companies and he got like 500k severance total
Is it anyone other than google?

sorry fam. hope you find a new opportunity out there. companies are still hiring, just not FAANGMULAs as much
I was spared from google layoffs, unfortunately. Burned out and would have loved to have taken that severance and have a couple months off, paid. Job search for me would have been seamless and easy regardless if I was laid off or not anyways.

Thanks. I already have a really cozy job at a tech giant so I'm not really stressing tbh, was just hoping this was the year I could finally make a big career jump
i’m currently in school for networking but with AI popping off, do you guys fear what the future holds for CS and the other sectors of IT? even for engineering jobs, years ago these jobs were seen as the most secure but now it’s hard to say what the future holds
we are very early in the development of AI and it’s capabilities are so impressive
I pray for the day they lay me off
I had to lay off two people today and it took all of my restraint to not say “look I’m trying to get the f*** out too, at least y’all get severance”
Not big tech though it just happened to coincide
Not laid off, fortunately, but my job has undergone a hiring freeze so I'm stuck in limbo as a contractor
my ex was one of the ones laid off from MS
she's actually really happy about it 6 months of chilling with severance pay and continued stock vesting. kinda jelly ngl

AI won't change much with development just shift the demand further away from CRUD development
chatGPT is on the job effectively just a superior version of stack overflow, it still can't handle things devs are necessary for like codebases.

the jobs aren't going anywhere, there will still be a need for people to install and implement physical hardware and software, ai included. you'll just need to adjust your skillset to match how the industry will change in the near future.
no, but world events got me wondering if i should swap majors
get your cs degree and work in the defense/aerospace/ intelligence sector, there will never be a shortage there.
the layoffs aren’t a big deal for most but anybody holding a h1b is pretty f***ed by this
