That's why some people say he has no substance^

I remember hearing that and a few other lines where I would have to Google if he actually said that not because it's good but because I couldn't believe he would actually say something like that

That's where the enjoyment for a song goes away for me

I don't hate his lyricism I'm just deeply dissapointed

Eminem was too good to become a punchline rapper imo

take into consideration that rappers before him and from his era haven't stooped to this level (nas, snoop, AZ, royce, method man, redman, black thought... )

How come royce and em started out at the same time but royce pen's has far more substance and according to fans keeps getting better? (with his own production/beat he learned throughout the years at that )

Nas' last album didn't have corny bars but actually impressed me when he was rapping over modern hit-boy beats

Idk fans/stans keep lowering the bar for the "greatest rapper alive" and it's sad, he sounds uninspired

Maybe if he gets a new muse (a reason to rap) or learns to just have fun (like ra the rugged man who doesn't take himself serious and made a parody of the WAP song by cardi b) he would make better songs

His competitiveness/ego are to blame for this as he actually believes he doesn't need to improve his penmanship :no one can sit there with a straight face and say he's pushing out lyrics on the same level as 20 years ago...

We're holding him to standards he set for himself the same way we hold other rappers to the standards they set for themselves

We need to stop acting like, just because he's better than the migos or lil pump that he's doing something, that's too low of a standard and he knows it.

That actually makes sense

But I didn't catch the Peter pan reference to continue the flying thing
Sounds like a forced comparison to me but yeah I get it now
Still doesn't change the fact I googled to make sure he actually said that when I first listened cuz I was taken aback not in a good way

The only purpose was to continue the mj reference which was also lazy as hell (for Eminem level pen)

For comparison here's some wordplay involving MJ, (and Eminem ironically)

Bars like these actually impress me upon first hearing them and I keep going back ^

Eminem is more than capable of delivering greatness, he's just satisfied with little because his fans coddle him imo

That's why the negative backlash after Revival made him record another album iirc (kamikaze)

We can't say he's on a upward streak since Revival and say he never fell off: realistically he did.

Him getting better than Revival is a good thing but in the grand scheme of things still embarrassing compared to other rap juggernaut in hip hop (rappers who's catalogue span several decades as well )
