Nolan reading this post like “oh thank God” lmao

Other directors must be so jealous seeing comments like this “the poor dialogue and lack of depth are just part of the plan!”

Well, that’s exactly what he is supposed to be though. Rather functional, your vehicle for the audience to be taken on this journey. He‘s pretty confused the whole damn time, it seems at first. But after the 2nd viewing, I don’t know but it seems like he always knew what to do and where to go. The movie is simply designed to be seen multiple times and Nolan does this masterfully.

Watched the movie, enjoyed it, I'm kinda feeling the formula. Nolan has this big thing around which he builds everything, and the thing in his movie is always fine aka layers in inception, time in Interstellar, perception of time in Dunkirk, inversion in Tenet and I feel like those concepts are the main reasons why Nolan even makes these movies.

Then he adds some emotions/drama, and I think that Inception maybe has the best emotional part, maybe Interstellar is better but I've watched Inception a long time ago.

And for me Tenet really lacks in emotional aspect. It's like yes, it's horrible to see how this evil dude abuses that poor women, but at the same time evil dude is so cartoonish. Yesterday was my first watch so maybe my opinion will change, I saw people saying that Interstellar dialogues are very to-the-point, but in Tenet it hits the whole new level, literally 90% of the movie feels like watching some side quests in computer game.

I enjoyed other things in this movie, practical effects were so cool that I've literally felt goosebumps, and there is something about how Nolan shoots things, for example I think I had some visual o***** just looking at the scene where they were on this weird half-flying ship. This is truly a movie to watch in cinema, and f*** Covid19 for forcing me to miss it.

Glad he picked Elizabeth Debiki, maybe she is just my type, but I feel like there is something awesome about her. I liked other actors too, considering the material, but again villain is too over the top. Debiki literally played the same Damsel in Distress role in Night Administrator, but there Hugh Laurie was her captor. Maybe if Nolan picked him or made the villain more subtle, I would've enjoyed this movie more.

OST was nice, but it's not as memorable as Interstellar, Inception or even Dunkirk which at least had this weird wave effect through the whole movie. I think that in this movie the easiest way for OST to stand out would be to make it in reverse during inversed parts, but it seems like they haven't done that.

About score, I'll give 7/10 for now, but it's like the lowest, so I feel that I'll probably raise it after the second watch.

Have you ever watched the Sergio Leone movies, especially the Clint Eastwood character man with noname. We have zero information about the character. Doesnt stop him from being awesome and the movies from being genius.
I think the tvshow era and other component made the character devellopment or the background story the center of the movie when its not. Look at No Country For Old Men, Mad Max Fury Road whats the character developpment in those movies? Are they not great?

Every character speaking in dry “cool” quotes, and the reliance on exposition (that was sometimes aphasia-esque, look up aphasia if you don’t know what it is) got on my nerves and soured the viewing experience as I watched it

But I liked the performances, score, action set pieces and cinematography. Protagonist’s relationship with Neil, his protectiveness over Kat, and the triangle dynamic between Protagonist/Kat/Andre all grounded the film for me and kept me engaged

    7/10

Really solid post about this era.

I feel inclined to disagree on those comparisons just because the power of those characters lies in their contrast against the backdrop they’re put against and characters positioned alongside them. Like for example Max is the stoic loner, a completely blank slate to play against larger than life characters such as Furiosa and Immortan Joe. He’s the vessel to present these other big characters and settings

I just don’t really feel like the Protagonist serves that role well when the settings and supporting cast also don’t capture the intrigue of the audience. It’s a film entirely made up of the Man With No Name minus the contrast that made him so engaging. Cold characters going through the motions in service of a concept valued higher than those inside it. But that’s just my feelings walking away from the film

Effects and cinematography were still great and I wish I could have seen it on the big screen
