    think abt this.

u cant combat a non-chemical problem with chemicals

this is why we understand that folks with acute depression (depression not as a result of a chemical imbalance) shouldn't just be thrown on anti depressants

u cant combat an illogical belief with logic

this is why we understand that debating radical groups like Qanon or Scientology is fruitless, you won't change their minds by out-logicking them

we naturally understand that you cant solve a problem using a tactic that doesn't address the root of the problem. Why don't we apply this to crime?

I'm assuming ur probably not a criminal if ur reading this, ask urself why u don't commit crimes. Is it because there were a lot of police around you?

    The idea is this:

u cant combat an issue that arises out of inequality with increased police presence. What factors cause people to commit crimes? Does police being present do anything do address those factors?

    Y’all getting so aggressive.

I think it’s fair to scrutinize claims about increased police presence correlating with safety, seeing what we know about police at large, nypd, and the data surrounding policing. For a lot of people the specifics came to light after George Floyd, and for some we been kinda involved with that most of our lives.

If we see homelessness as a problem that’s not “solved” by policing then their violence could be similarly said to not be solved by policing but instead other measures of social support.

Idk what’s going on in this instance but idk what cop was going to stop this from happening since we have explosives and a gun involved, brought by someone dressed in safety clothing. We’ve seen police and nypd misconduct and lie in the face of evidence enough to have a lack of faith in their presence being a net positive because the system to keep them accountable just shields them. When u have the mayor saying it doesn’t matter those cops lied when they frisked rapper C blu ( news.yahoo.com/don-t-believe-those-officers-230000290.html ) you can lose faith in the intent and motives of policing, in fairness.

I also think telling people they have to be from nyc to participate in discussion is a bit silly because brain dead takes can come from any geographic coordinate, even within the city. But living there can be good context and shouldn’t be outright dismissed.

It’s incredible with each post you just completely miss the point of what I’m saying. and it’s not some sort of complex scenario either so I really don’t get it

So when homeless people was getting stabbed to death for the last few months what was police doing?

When asians was getting pushed on the tracks what was the police doing?

When they weren't called 5 to 1 homeless nigga that had the utter audacity to sleep on one of those benches on the train, when was they gonna have time to prevent a crazy nigga from shooting up a train?

RIP to the victims. I used to love living in NYC and even though it was a rough city I can't remember it being as bad crime-wise as it has been in recent years. It's really sad because everyone always talks about how they remember the reputation NYC had in the 80s-90s and it seems like it's been really backsliding in that direction. Easily my favorite city in the world along with many others' people and it's so depressing stuff like this, or literal hate crimes, are in the news every single day now.

Nypd had cops going viral for being d***heads about turnstiles a few years ago, and about masks during the pandemic, among other things.

If they can find a solution to the diminished safety people feel riding the subways because of all the incidents as of late, that’d be great. But increased police presence on its on is going to be a mixed bag because of the institution involved is what I’m saying.

Bro I’m not sure exactly what you think my stance is here but I can tell you for certain you’re arguing with yourself at this point.

Idc if they even decrease police presence EVERYWHERE else in the city. Not in the subway stations. If you deadass think having less police in the TRAIN STATIONS (DISCLAIMER: I AM ~ ONLY~ TALKING ABOUT TRAIN 🚂 STATIONS) then you’ve lost all sense of reality and I have an incredibly hard time believing you live here.

And I'm telling you increased presence ONLY IN THE TRAIN STATIONS will not solve the problem of a crazy nigga opening fire on a train.

Out of all the guarantees that will do I promise the only one I'm certain is make life hell for turnstile jumpers.

  • Apr 12, 2022

All I know is that no one feels safe riding the subway in the city from people I’ve spoken to
And they’re 100% going the more police route and people aren’t going to push back
Wether you think it’ll work or not, it’s happening

Yea I hope not, saw someone else pointing that out. All this Asian hate attacks really boggling my mind but I understand it’s not something I can ever really “get”.

Hope the victims and their loved ones can heal.

To the nyc people in this thread does this change how u feel getting on the subway now? I know for a lot it’s just how u get around by necessity and that’s not about to change. I have some older folks who say next time they’re around that they’re taking the subway cus people doing too much. I do a mix of majority subway, the city bike walking, Uber and lastly bus but I can’t see myself just not taking the subway. It’s just how u get around (to me). What about y’all?
