and honestly Drake lost imo because he does that same tired mob boss monotone "im too good to even be rapping right now" flow on every single song
like if you're dissing someone put some energy and passion behind that s***, you can hear the disdain and energy that Kendrick has in every single song
Yup all of that is production value
How your voice cuts the track when you are in front of that mic matters big time. It’s not just about lyrics, it’s not a poetry contest lol

Also facts
To be fair, Takeover had a better beat than Ether.
ive always thought the opposite
Drake has no range in his voice it’s all one note. He came in too cocky and not focused
I cringed a lil bit inside when he said that "dave freeeeee" line only for Kendrick to flip that line back at him with "a minorrrrrrr"
I think it’s more to do with Kendrick awareness. Dropping MTG immediately after family matters came out all but took the wind out of drakes sails.
Like, The public were slobbing euphoria but no one except a small percentage of Stan’s thought Drake couldn’t come back or that it was over.
Mtg-Not like that would’ve still had an impact if dropped later, but with more time with the public only focusing on Family matters (and Drake) it could’ve been much better. Also allowing Drake enough time to recoup to prepare for next Kendrick drop
Push Ups is a super safe Drake type beat but thats why it gets boring lol
He should have had 40 making timestamp records lol or called T-Minus / Bink / Just Blaze / etc. he letting OVO randoms just give him placeholder NBA 2k menu beats except for last part of family matters lol
It’s not discussed as much as other reasons why Dot won but I think subconsciously people could tell
People were feeling those tracks. You can tell when you watch the reactions, the music is keeping em engaged as well as what he’s saying
MTG had people looking at their screens like 😳 lol the lyrics/delivery on there pretty scathing but that beat really helps set the tone, it’s so eerie
Like That, Euphoria, and Not Like Us had folks dancing and jumping. They keep talking about how the songs ringing off too, production is well suited for the club and the whip
Musically I feel people were more captivated, pretty obvious from the numbers too

100%
People always think production and mixing and overall execution don’t matter but they will always make or break your s*** with the people subconsciously
I think if Drake came correct in those areas we might be having a different conversation

Yea I feel Drake def underestimated how well Kendrick would adapt in battle
Dot killed so many narratives in a matter of a month which is wild bc he had already proven himself in a multitude of ways imo
But all that “he’s boring and “no quotables” talk gotta go now lol
New album gon be crazy too
To be fair, Takeover had a better beat than Ether.
more ppl need to talk about how Ether beat is straight up ass

Lmao 😭
It’s not my favorite beat that Nas rapped on but it def sounds worse to me over time
The fact Ron Browz did it just adds to the hilarity

Straight up, but Nas made it work in the end
Kendrick has the machine.
The Machine is TELLING YOU Kendrick won.
When in reality Drake demolished his cornball ass.
more ppl need to talk about how Ether beat is straight up ass
Again it’s also how he delivered his verses. You can make a trash beat slap if you say the right things the right way

Production Value
There’s a lot of debate going on about who out rapped who and what’s true and what’s not but what’s clear as day imo is Kendrick completely outclassed Drake in production value and quality which was really disappointing to see
From the beginning with Like that K Dot came out swinging with an iconic metro Boomin beat and a fiery delivery. He kept the same energy with Euphoria, another amazing beat and more interesting and engaging cadences that really grab the listener. Then with 616 he really gave us a gem with a classic Al Green sample flipped by sounwave and again his flow and delivery were amazing, kind of reminiscent of pre GKMC Kendrick. Then we have Meet The Grahams which has an amazing alchemist beat and the way he’s able to get into character and really sell the narrative is truly special. Finally we have Not like Us which sounds like a bonafide hit and features some of Kendrick’s most entertaining rapping to date
On Drake’s side we have Push Ups which features some solid rapping from Drake lyrically but the delivery is pretty flat and monotonous as is the production. The low end is really distorted and muddy too and the whole thing just sounds crunchy. It works but it’s no where near his standard. Then we have Taylor Made which was creative and also featured some great rapping from the boy with a nostalgic west coast beat but the AI artifacts just bring it down and make it hard to listen to. Burried Alive was cool but nothing about it was all that impressive. Family Matters was the one track Drake dropped that really measures up to his standard and it sounds great, production is phenomenal, performances are phenomenal as well. Then with The Heart Part 6 lyrically it’s really good but again we have a flat delivery, flat production, and a muddy mix.
Overall I think Kendrick really had better quality music and more dynamic performances that make his songs a lot more listenable and like-able than Drake’s. It sounds like everything from Drake other than Family Matters was just thrown together without any quality control.
I don’t think none of those beats were any good
