The 5 levels of bowel movements
1 - Farting
2 - S***ting
3 - Sharting
4 - Diarrhea
5 - Breaking the toilet
lyric writing but yea for sure @op not even sarcastically ur spot on
If that's ur description of level 5 then cole would be in level 5 instead 4 just off 4yeo
Kendrick too for gkmc/tpab
Lupe Fiasco the level 5 but trash? How that work? 😂
F&L, TC & T&Y going head to head with any rap classic
Comparing rappers to hoopers is more thoughtful discourse than this nut ass take

Don't forget Drogas Wave, even if the music is slightly weaker

I'd say DAMN and Mr Morale is more arguable for level 5

man im eating
There are good and bad examples of every level so implying there's a hierarchy to them doesn't really work
I'd also factor in the dimension of actual song writing as in structure and composition
Idk about that. Making your message cryptic and inaccessible isn’t a genius thing to do necessarily. It’s actually one of the biggest problems people have with the information gatekeeping in academic spaces.
I personally find poeticism in lyrical content is much more important than convoluted entendres and mysterious wordplay. lyrics can be very profound and emotionally resonant while still being accessible and thoughtfully crafted.
Like I don’t think a song that’s uses an allegory to open up into social issues is on a higher level than a song that uses disjointed romanticisms to create an emotional listen.
They both can excel at what they’re trying to do, involve very different skill sets, and can be incredibly enjoyable experiences all while taking a very talented writer to make.
Like Lupe Fiasco & Tracy Thorn couldn’t be further away lyrically, but I wouldn’t say one is objectively better than the other even if I have a preference
I was thinking about writing in music, and I started to realize everything is about themes . What really makes writing captivating is this eternal struggle to correlate words with meaning
I used to romanticize the difficulty of imbuing lyrics with meaning just like this, but in reality it’s the standard of fitting lyrics into end rhymes that makes it more difficult than writing meaningful prose
Just wanna say that I don’t think being esoteric is necessarily high level writing
Speak on it
