fast food is def cheaper than fresh fruit and veggies and lean proteins. not to mention the time it takes to procure and prepare the food for certain families.
No it isn’t
A fast food burger or meal costs anywhere from 8-12 dollars for a single meal (shit isn’t a big mac like 8.99 these days)
Take a family of 4, that’s 48-70 dollars if you’re including the fact adults eat more more on average — for a single meal.
There’s families that will eat out for lunch and dinner so that’s 140 dollars in a single day potentially on food. The average weekly grocery bill cost in America for a family of 4 is roughly 200-300 depending on where you are.
You can get 5 pounds of chicken thigh for like 10-18 dollars depending on where you are. That’s enough to feed a small family for 2-3 days. A family pack of rice is like 10 dollars and lasts weeks.
Eating out is always more expensive
You are greatly underestimating the cost of convenience, especially in the US.
That’s not an excuse, I’m in finance and have doctor/nurse and other friends in pretty hourly incentive fields who cook for themselves
You realize pretty quickly how much of a drain on your wallet eating out is even with high income
There’s packaged frozen food meals that are fairly nutritious if you cared solely about convenience
People are paying for the indulgence factor, not simply time saving
healthy food is gatekept to an extent
medicating obesity isn't gonna fix s*** long term, but unfortunately the solution would require large scale systemic change that is pretty unrealistic at the current moment
Except it literally does fix s*** long term. Being obese isn’t just a disease of physical appearance, it comes with multiple long term adverse health issues.
If we had the infrastructure to give children better weight loss programs and better access to healthy foods without the need for medications, that would be incredible. But the fact of the matter is that we don’t, and we can’t sit back and let children die because people subscribe to the notion that we only give medications to feed the pockets of pharmaceutical companies

we do have the infrastructure lol, childhood obesity wasn't this big of a problem in the past
day to day activity levels and diet expectations have changed a lot over time tho
also I meant long term like beyond a single person's lifetime, and also this does in fact feed the pockets of pharmaceutical companies

The medication mentioned in the article costs 1500 a month and isn’t covered by insurance lol

hell of a lot more profit margin than some produce and 30 min of cardio
grocery stores are literally a trap, even when you think something is healthy its probably filled with a lot of BS too. And the truly healthy options (which are few and far between) are usually like 30% more expensive at a minimum

mfs diluted the quality of our food products to the point where we are eating literal trash and now are gonna sell us what should be the standard as a "premium" option

So if we have the infrastructure, we should just let everything continue as is? We should just punish all these children because their parents aren’t able to help them stick to lifestyle modifications? Like I said, obesity is about more than just physical appearances, there are very severe co-morbidities that come along with it.
And yes, it feeds pharmaceutical companies pockets, but that’s not why we do it. The APA and the physicians don’t receive any monetary benefit from giving these medications. And the pharmaceutical companies aren’t the ones who make the guidelines

yaaa doctors definitely could never be bought out...
Food industry lobby undefeated

what are you talking about?
you could’ve just googled. a Happy Meal (since we’re talking about kids) is between 2.50 and 4 dollars. a Big Mac is 4. you can get 2 burgers for 2 dollars. it’s literally designed to be affordable for poors.
so you’re wrong.
also do you think a 19-25 y/o mom w 2 kids, living in poverty with possibly multiple jobs wants to grocery shop in her limited free time, much less come home after work and prepare rice and chicken and a veggie for her 2 children who are hungry and haven’t seen her all day?
use your brain. be sensible. don’t just try to be right no matter what.
why not both :)
ummm doctors and pharmaceutical companies would NEVER betray their consumers in order to make money 😡
