    what are you talking about?

you could’ve just googled. a Happy Meal (since we’re talking about kids) is between 2.50 and 4 dollars. a Big Mac is 4. you can get 2 burgers for 2 dollars. it’s literally designed to be affordable for poors.

    so you’re wrong.

also do you think a 19-25 y/o mom w 2 kids, living in poverty with possibly multiple jobs wants to grocery shop in her limited free time, much less come home after work and prepare rice and chicken and a veggie for her 2 children who are hungry and haven’t seen her all day?

use your brain. be sensible. don’t just try to be right no matter what.

Also a 19-25 mom with two kids would be collecting WIC checks for about 500 dollars in nyc to spend on groceries

They’d be pretty dumb and lazy to forgo 500 dollars on free food to spend on fast food cause they apparently don’t have the time to shop and cook

It takes one night a week to grocery shop the week and one night of 45 or so minutes to cook and freeze.

People do it, idk what reality you’re thinking of.

Fast food companies benefit from the mistakes of the consumer.

And btw WIC runs out by age 5 for kids so at point the mom would be feeding kids with bigger appetites. A happy meal is only 475 cals, a 5 year old needs 1400 cals a day…

Either way your argument or example doesn’t stand up to reality or actual cost a***ysis

so if im following you, you think we should give more money for people to be able to spend on groceries then right. so they can offset the labor inputs and travel time and costs required to make food?

The labor requirements and time to cook the food versus driving to go get fast food are over exaggerated

At home cooking is cheaper by a wide margin, regardless

Programs like that should probably be expanded but that wasn’t my main point I wasn’t making

I don’t know why you’re acting infallible when you’re not doing the math or cost a***ysis

First off happy meals are most purchased for very small kids, 3-8 mostly based on data. Happy meal would be 3-4 dollars but if you had kids older than 8 (especially 12+) you know that isn’t filling them up or enough calories for them. Hence you’d probably be looking at a larger meal between 6-8 dollars per kid being conservative.

Say we want to be conservative, 6 dollars a meal for two kids, that’s 12 dollars on average conservative estimate to feed each kid two fast food meals a day — $24. Then parents again will want to eat which will be 8-10ish for their meals and basically $40 dollars per day for their two meals.

You’re still at 64 dollars a day using the most conservative estimate 64x7= 448 estimate weekly spend on food. This would be even more in urban areas.

I already gave you the grocery cost estimate which is a valid and real statistic. It’s 300 for a family of 4 on the high cost of living end.

The time factor is bullshit lol, you drive back and forth to a McDonald’s to pick up the food and go back home each way.

Spend one day in grocery store and buy 5-8 pounds of chicken thighs or chicken on sale breast, 5 pounds of rice, 3 4 dollar bag of frozen veggies, and some eggs and milk -/ your bill would be like 65-80 in a place like nyc and that would feed for your family of 3-4 for a week.

It takes 40 mins max to cook one night during the week and you could freeze.

You’re out of touch with reality. I’m a sector 8 baby of an immigrant family and my mom made that work on 7.45 an hour salary for 20 years lol. We never could afford to eat out because my family knew that s*** was a waste of money. Same with all my 6 uncles and aunts from both sides.

Run the math and figure out how much you’re paying per calorie with your weekly fast food family meal plan lol.

not gonna get into all the numbers bc you’re right that i’m too lazy for that rn. suffice it to say it’s definitely not as easy as just ‘this costs this.’ many people only have money for the one day or one meal. they may not be able to afford to buy the amount necessary to get the prices you’re talking about all at once at the grocery store.

will say this tho, lol you're exhibiting a classic problem many ppl have in this country.

and that's comparing the average person to some extraordinary person that you know personally. i’ve noticed immigrants are super prone to doing this so that makes sense.

    props to your Mom tho.

Bro that average grocery cost of 300 dollars is for every American household not some exceptionally finance suave people — how much would you spend at the grocery as single person?

It’s pretty line with what I spend on groceries which is like 70 or so for a single person in Nyc, I noticed my old roommates and friends spend about the same

you’re talking about cost a***ysis that real people don’t have the time, money, or intelligence to even do

i’m talking about real life bro, taking into account real ppl’s experience with money and inability to budget bc they literally don’t have the money in hand.

If you’re that broke you have food stamps aka even more incentive to grocery shop

Broke people and families be the ones budgeting the most because they have too in order to survive. It doesn’t take a genius figure you shouldn’t spend 3 dollars on a 475 calorie meal when 5 pounds of chicken meat could be 10 dollars for a weeks worth of calories or a 12 pack of eggs being 4 dollars.

Well off families don’t need to budget basic necessities

Keep in mind I’m arguing this as someone who eats out everyday but knows the math and exactly how much money I’m losing by doing it but I’m a single man and can afford to be a lil irresponsible

Some people eat normal amounts of food and get fat. The only way for these types of misfortunate people to stay in shape is a structured diet with a slight caloric deficit.
