so are will still on track for december? or we waiting for the new year?

australian unrealistic covid zero mindset = on track for 2074

european dealing with reality mindset = on track for around march as i've always said

Probably new year. experts saying even at 80% vacc rate we r f***ed

They either open up and take the deaths on or close up for longe r

not going to hit 80% EVER. i doubt we hit 70. really not sure where australian politicians go to then.

covid mutating is a good thing though, it should become more transmissible but less pathogenic over time

should basically become something more like a cold

ā€œWe will need to live with restrictions so long as Delta is around,ā€ she said.

ā€œSo long as Delta has presence in the world, even if we had zero cases and we were at 80% double dose, you would still have to respect rules that exist around vaccinations, around social distancing, around mask-wearing.

ā€œSo long as Delta and deadly COVID is around, we will always need to live with a measure of restriction.ā€

still don't see where the covid zero target is

once we hit high vaccination figures and open up, of course things like mask wearing and social distancing will have to remain in some contexts due to vaccinated people still being able to pass the virus to others

this lockdown is mad, no city slickers at the snow

  • Aug 18, 2021

Was hoping I’d be able to visit relatives in Asia at the end of the year or early next year, probably not looking very likely even end of next year tbh…

    Delusional.

Restrictions are already very heavy minus hopping everyone on job keeper and shutting down even essential services.

Sure they should’ve locked down harder earlier but at this point it’s way too late. Even with restrictions it only takes a few people to forgo them and cause mass infection aka the hoxton birthday party which basically made all these case numbers go ballistic at the start.

We actually don’t have that many cases. The reality is we need to vaccinate and go back to largely normal

Also as an anecdotal people are genuinely sick of lock downs at this point. We already dealt with this s*** for many months last year

the fact nsw still has hotel quarantine is f***ing insane, it should be at the very least home isolation by tomorrow.

we (if you're in nsw) really need to hold our nerve here. don't listen to mcgowan and arden types who live in fantasy land (look at their vaccination rates btw). concede that borders are out of reach and do what is best for the people of nsw - restoration of life/freedoms for vaccinated individuals

it's the only way out of this. I really hope they stay the course.

And anyone calling this a "mockdown" can go f*** themselves.

wait until everyone realises that even with a 100% vaccinated population (impossible) there will be 10-20 deaths a day

I guarantee you that the promised "reopening" around AU and NZ wont happen because their politicians will flinch, they have set the benchmark at absolute zero.

NSW needs to grit its teeth because taking away the "option" of covid zero should be the best thing that happened to the state long-term.

we obviously will need to move towards a ā€œliving with the virusā€ thing cause it’s inevitable at this stage

personally this lockdown didn’t feel that bad for me (cause it was so light for the majority of the time)

but we need greater access to vaccines and until we got high vaccination rates we need to lock down and make it harsher imo

we can’t keep having this consistently high daily rate 🤷

  • Aug 19, 2021

anyway i’m personally fine with mandatory vaccines for venues and workplaces

merivale just sent out an email to staff to gauge everyone’s opinion on vaccines for customers and staff, vaccine schedules, etc

don’t like hemmes but i do want to open safely too

what's actually going to make a difference though

everyone is getting hysterical saying things need to be harsher but the majority of transmission is occurring in households in western sydney especially amongst the migrant community. as far as I'm aware household rules are essentially as tight as can be

curfew -> pointless for stopping virus transmission
masks outside -> pointless for stopping virus transmission
wHy iS bUnNiGs OpEn -> very little if any transmission and it is absolutely an essential shop

rules for the sake of them should never be encouraged, which leads into the overall point that "health advice" is whatever is politically convenient at the time.

dont get me wrong the messaging from all levels of government is horrendous but at this point the "issue" in Sydney is more about politics than it is public health. hence every smartass on twitter trying to get their 2c in

every press conference should open with vaccine information in like 8 different languages before moving to discuss cases etc. because very soon it will be the people refusing the vaccy who are kneecapping the country. and trust me, there are more than you may think.

i mean yeah there’s clearly been a failure to communicate with communities
i agree with the language thing, idk why they didn’t do that from the start cause they highlighted the language/cultural barrier very early on

and yeah i agree curfews are stoopid
but the fact there’s been so many breaches of ppl leaving sydney and going to other regions is embarrassing and preventable

  • Aug 19, 2021

unfortunately we can’t time travel cause the damage is done already but yeah
    this s*** is just frustrating

  • Uncle and aunt on some anti vax s***, they're so dumb

I'd happily swap them for a family of Afghani refugees

Depends where you are this s***s hell in the LGAs or near the LGAs. 5kms is basically all suburbia and random small parks
