I don't think it’s the only reason but it’s a pretty big one on its own. I'd imagine they knew about this the entirety of production so far.

Abrams film finished production in August 2025, could have wrapped for release in November 2026, and got delayed nearly a year until October 2027. That's dramatic enough to force slate swap with a film actively in production.

I guess I’m just trying to understand if they really think Abram’s project is something they’re confident in or not? Like why put it in that slot and not some other date you know?

Wondering if it’s because they have a lot of confidence in TBP2 and they see it as an automatic hit no matter when it releases

Rumor is the test screening for the Abrams movie went VERY WELL (GOAT back) and Warner want to give it a huge window, IMAX, 70mm, etc.

With the way things were previously, everything would’ve been rushed, including the edit itself.

Article makes it seem like they’re going all in on Abrams and delaying to get 70mm prints made with a good IMAX window. It’s his first film in like 8 years and might actually be an event

TBP2 in February is fine if they’re actually going all in on winter. It’s the same slot stuff like Black Panther and Deadpool used to release in, and releases on a holiday weekend for a solid bump. It’s performance ability isn’t really affected and won’t have to compete with other major late-year releases

Edit: meant to be reply to @Jammuh

  • At this rate that's the only scene they've filmed. It is insane how long this movie has taken.

Kinda want this to end at part 2. A trilogy shouldn't take over adecade to release unless it's just insane quality.

All we need is James Gunn to die a horrific death with his bullshit universe idea and DC is back

Just makes it more impressive that Denis was able to drop the entire Dune trilogy in between the production timeline of The Batman and The Batman Part 2

Actually seeing a Batman film (or one he stars in) to its release is pretty hard. Very few Batman film ideas have ever actually made it there. We know of the myriad of scrapped films, pitches, development hells, etc...

WB/DC has been attempting this at various points for 20 years and it never quite goes as planned.

They moved The Batman Part 2 down 4 months to make space for a f***ing post-Rise of Skywalker JJ Abrams movie starring Jenna Ortega and Glenn Powell

We can’t be f***ing serious. Everybody laugh
