this is a holland outtake that is STILL to this day unreleased and is one of my favorite dennis songs oat, should’ve been on the album

bb so goat even primal scream covered this song, mfs recorded a studio cover of a bb song that’s only out on bootleg too influential

originally dennis brought two songs he wrote for this album: “4th of july” with carl on the vocals and “wouldn’t it be nice to live again” that he wanted to be the album closing track

manager jack riley (who is the one who ended up doing the lead vocals on “a day in the life of a tree” because no one else wanted to do it as they thought it was too sad) insisted they keep the surf’s up concept and carl agreed so dennis took his songs and never used it again.

it is a crying shame as they are some of his most beautiful songs ever (“4th of july” was only released 20y later and “wouldn’t it be nice to live again” 40y later, it’s a crime so many fans have had to wait so long for these masterpieces) i think you’d love them

No while I may be a Beatles stan I've obviously gone through the Beach Boys discography before lol. I just take the piss sometimes, it's the Liverpool in me coming out

Do you think a 21st century artist will ever reach that level for you?

I feel like the amount of innovation in that time is almost impossible to top but it also feels naive to think we won’t see anymore god levels musicians

the way they harmonize over that small section instead of having the instrument playing it like the original or the other covers does it takes it to another level it makes it so majestic and mystical

I really only know “Surfin’ Safari” and a few tracks off Pet Sounds! Don’t dislike them just haven’t done a deep dive. What would you recommend outside of just Pet Sounds?

our ears tend to like music in it's rawest form (devoid of white noise, just harmonics) and like human voices because we are human so it works out lol
