    these guys are very talented actually i talked to the singer songwriter he’s really nice and so is the rest of the band (i asked them to cover rio grande as a challenge lol)

    post is facts but i think the original 'instrumental' surf rock style is the definitive surf rock style and the vocal stuff is just more of an offshoot. ex when people are talking about surf rock influence i feel they are usually talking about the d*** dale type stuff especially the distinctive guitar. instrumental surf rock is the music that sounds like surfing itself. the vocal surf rock is just (also great) music that talks about surfing

    i think hes the ultimate genius of music, but i would still call a bunch of others geniuses too. hes just like the einsten of this s***

    Do you think a 21st century artist will ever reach that level for you?

    I feel like the amount of innovation in that time is almost impossible to top but it also feels naive to think we won’t see anymore god levels musicians

    originally dennis brought two songs he wrote for this album: “4th of july” with carl on the vocals and “wouldn’t it be nice to live again” that he wanted to be the album closing track

    manager jack riley (who is the one who ended up doing the lead vocals on “a day in the life of a tree” because no one else wanted to do it as they thought it was too sad) insisted they keep the surf’s up concept and carl agreed so dennis took his songs and never used it again.

    it is a crying shame as they are some of his most beautiful songs ever (“4th of july” was only released 20y later and “wouldn’t it be nice to live again” 40y later, it’s a crime so many fans have had to wait so long for these masterpieces) i think you’d love them

    this is a holland outtake that is STILL to this day unreleased and is one of my favorite dennis songs oat, should’ve been on the album

    (sorry this is the best upload there is on yt apparently, there’s only bootlegs of the song)

    bb so goat even primal scream covered this song, mfs recorded a studio cover of a bb song that’s only out on bootleg too influential
