thats thanks to jack rieley who was a young hip dj and was hired as manager to rebrand the band among the cool people, smile was picking up traction so he suggested they make an album set based off of the emblematic song, he randomly found the artwork as a postcard i believe, either him or carl or something along those lines iirc

    That’s an epic story.
Thank you for sharing, I never knew this about the surfs up artwork.
    Thank you Jack Rieley

this foldout imagery really ties the package together ecological desolation coinciding with Brians emotional desolation

if it weren’t for him idk how the 70s run would’ve been, surfs up, holland and so tough is all under his direction of rebranding them - once he was gone it went bad again (15 big ones, MIU album..)

he wrote some great lyrics too (you need a mess to stand alone) and is the one singing on “a day in the life of a tree”

A wonderful rebrand Jack Rieley did in the 70s as well this is a king for sure.

He is a 🐐 for doing all those albums covers. Holland’s is one of my favourite album covers ever made.
Once again Thank You Jack Rieley.
Yeah he’s a 🐐 also wrote lyrics as well
(You need a mess to stand alone) a fantastic song.
The singing on a day in the life of a tree is epic I am glad to know who is behind the singing.

Reading the lyrics as I listen and Bruce just killed me with that legendary Disney Girls bridge whose lyrics I could never quite make out

    "Love...Hi Rick and Dave
    Hi Pop...Well good morning mom
    Love...get up guess what
I'm in love with a girl I found
    She's really swell
    Cause she likes
Church, bingo chances and old time dances"

this is carl waiting by the phone for brians instructions for the album - brian was in the same house, just in a separate room, isolating himself in bed and starting hard on d****

the flop of sunflower was the beginning of his dark reclusion hardcore years

til i die wasn’t even a newly written song on the spot for the album, it was something brian did in 1969 and played it on piano for mike love with already all the lyrics in mind, mike love turned it down said it was depressing

Is this the only movie about Brian wilson?

  • love and mercy thoughts and quotes / write up

The cinematography was amazing. Epic scenes throughout. Phenomenal acting, an epic movie. I would definitely be recommending this one.
    Director did this amazing
the shots on here were just magnificent.
The 360 angle of the studio was by far one of my favourites.

“Blue is a calming color “

“Are you sure you don’t want the Maserati”

“Do you know who this man is? “This is Brian Wilson. “

“Feels like I’m having a heart attack “

It was like I was in a movie or something but then it got dark and scary

“Then i started hearing things strange talking.”

“Like voices in your head well kinda. “

“Maybe I’m cuckoo for cocoa puffs “
    (Cuckoo for cocoa puffs)

“I got all kinds of new ideas, new sounds”

“Have you heard the new Beatles yeah, yeah rubber soul”, “it’s about John Lennon having an affair “

“They stole our backing vocals “

“We can’t let them get ahead of us “

“I’m going to make the greatest album ever made “

“It’s Brian Wilson from the beach boys”. “Hi Brian Wilson from the beach boys “

    “Brian Wilson”
“I’m 96% deaf because of my Dad whacking me so much “

“Brian you got a light. “

“More than phill Spector” . “Phills got nothing on you”

“You know I got another house up the coast”

“Every blue moon your soul comes out to play”

“It’s important to try things” “ new things”

“ I get allergies so I get a bit drowsy”

“Hang on to your ego what are you trying to say “

    “I don’t think it’s a d*** song “
    “It’s about ego that’s all”
“Does it sound like a d*** song to anyone else“

    “It’s part of the music”

    “It’s hip , it’s fun , it’s now “

    The old stuff is old

“The surfers don’t get our stuff anyways “

    “You gotta keep growing”

    “Dennis played “

“That’s great dad your doing your own thing “

    “Where you I did LSD”
    “I did it twice “

“Can you turn that off it kinda messes with my brain”

“I have to say 5 times to myself I love you”

“ you gotta hide under the stairs”

“ I have this song playing in my head I just don’t have the melody”

“Our songs you can’t do that “

    “I hear voices”. “since when 1963 “

the reason dennis took back his songs and shelved them is bc jack insisted the project had to focus on surfs up and have the song as its closer - dennis wanted “wouldn’t it be nice to live again” to close the album, carl agreed with jack to go with surfs up which is why dennis walked away with his songs
