so beautiful and the music perfectly fits the lyric

Same type of emotional peak as Closing My Eyes that just wrecks me
I've shed many a tear to it
this is probably the best beach boys song from the 90s youâll ever hear that is actually not a beach boys song! elvis said this song is a tip of the cap to the beach boys and that he was listening a lot of holland and surfâs up while recording it
he even puts so tough and holland in his top 500 albums to hear (with of course pet sounds)
pretty sure he did the liner notes for the cd of holland and goes in full depth about his love for it too
i reckon you can hear their influence on him way back on the first track of his first (still best?) album:

and you?
hereâs two recommendation you might have never heard of because they are extremely obscure - way beyond the smoke
first is the toms: a diy one man by a guy named u guesssed it tommy marolda whos first project came out in 1979, flawless run of beatles turned up power pop:

the other one is rodney allen: in the 80s some manager of a local label goes to a pub and hears a kid do a set, he signs him right away, that is rodney allen, he records his album in about one or two session, just him and his guitar and sometimes some saxophone notes but thatâs it, he is only 16 when he writes and records and releases this album, it didnât take off, he did however do decent as a guitarist for the blue areoplanes (which as a uk im sure youâve heard of) but was never used for his songwriting skills or beautiful voice again and thatâs a crime because his only solo album is my little treasure, one of my all time fav, there was only one vinyl pressing it hasnât been reissued so the only recordings you can find arent hq rips but it brings a charm to those songs, all of the record is amazing

there is very little to nothing to be find about rodney, no ârodriguezâ resurfacing it documentary happy ending none, after his short run with the blue areoplanes rodney went to drive trucks and stick to that, the only reasons there is more google searches results poppin up these days is because he finally got back on stage last year for some show to what looks to be around a max of 30 people, the rest of infos you can find are as good as what im writing, hell probably less since i had to do extra digging over the years (the video above is a 5yo upload and only had 100 views)

ah bowie that goes without saying, kinda like the beach boys, was silly of me to include the later (in a thread like this) but not the first, ive wrote ridiculous lenghty posts about bowies trivias over the bowie thread here, bigger than stuff ive shared itt about the bbs
dead at âsarcophagusâ you beat me

is that a lot? i actually donât use rym, i was just making a point lol
oh man michel polnareff would DEFINITELY be in my top ten dust!

the acoustic guitar on this is performed by jimmy page pre led zepp fame
jimi hendrix covered it too

is that a lot? i actually donât use rym, i was just making a point lol
nah but more than i was expecting , like its obscure but the real ones/genre enthusiasts know about it. if i was crawling through RYM lists about power pop id probablu run into it eventually buried in someone's list. people giving it really high praise on there
and someone even said he sounds like Rivers Cuomo
for comparison weezer blue album is on 2157 lists. and the rodney allen album is on just 2.

I SWEAR THATS NOT ME
tell him to join ktt2 tho
yeah i figured the toms got more traffic but rodney is too obscure bc never reissued and not in a hot âmusicalâ genre that has a following (heâs just songwriter), heâs my treasure, i am very grateful to have find out about him
but the toms is PURE power pop, song i linked shouldâve been a huge hit if promoted by big label for sure
are the rubinoos not popular? great power pop gem

(no not a beach boys cover lol)
