He shouldâve just called it Smile 2 or something to troll Brian lmao
bruh
funniest part is that van dyke parks - yes the lyricist of smile - plays some accordion or something on the album summer in paradise
from smile to this .... i guess the check mustâve been a fat n easy one for the later, mike love just couldnât help himself to buy him back to put him at a lesser role
god dam it misread my bois post and listened to the us version
At least you got to hear the singles
my fav part from mike love note about sip:
We wondered what the Beach Boys first song (Surfinâ) would sound like had we started out in the â90s instead of the 60s. The result was the new version of Surfinâ. It really is incredible to hear your first song recorded in a new musical context 30 years later. Summer Of Love, in a mid-60s Beach Boys style, is light and fun â totally for the young.

Wouldâve sounded like Weezer
Surf Wax America
Point something out ho
I had sluggish muddy Surf's Up version for years before the gods blessed us with The Smile Sessions and a retooling of the old tapes resulting a dramatically more pristine version. Brian's vocal is literally different, hits much higher highs.
could the beach boys have been just as big if they never let mike love join and left him at his graveyard shifts at the gas station pumpin gas?
surfinâ usa demo with brian singing to get a picture of what couldâve been:

You're gonna make me like Mike more with this
Smile and Pet Sounds are alright. They donât touch this masterpiece tho
a man of culture, I see
a man of culture, I see
hereâs the time for my greatest confession, itâs now or never and we shall never mention this again please
i like this song, i in fact reaaaally like the chorus a lot

DO NOT QUOTE POST ABOVE EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES OR A PERMABAN WILLBE REQUESTED ON YOU
i dont like the way they cram the singles in wherever they please in the us versions
yeah it always feels tacked on, and as much as I love Paint It Black I don't think it fits at all with that sequencing on Aftermath US

i mean the surfâs up version has some carl dubs so thatâs nice
even jack chimes in on the coda at the end, funny
whatâs scarier is that not only mike considered this his pet sounds (you should read the note he did about it that comes with the album) but he planned another album afterwards that he said was gonna be his masterpiece and called it âthe masterplanâ - his smile???
and just like smile it never saw the day
need "MiKE Love Presents The Masterplan" as his next solo album

The other version so much better to me

One of the first Stones albums I had was Aftermath us version and it always felt off. Years till I found out why.

OMG
BRUH HOW MUCH U WANNA BET HE ALREADY HAS THAT LINED UP AND ALL PLANNED OUT INTO ONE BIG BOXSET ABOUT SUMMER IN PARADISE AND THE MASTERPLAN
actually i genuinely believe mike love is making moves to make sure sip doesnât get reprinted in any way or shape possible because he wants to create a cult out of it.. itâs not taking off tho lol
no it is but both can coexist
No the Smile sessions version is now cannon

yeah I just go to like a singles collection if I want to check out the missing singles from the UK albums; works out pretty well overall, though not as smooth as Past Masters for Beatles unfortunately
