What is their most underrated album?
among the fanbase its āL.A. albumā imo
gets bad rep for having a song remake that goes disco but other than that and a cheesy mike love song, thereās amazing input from both carl and dennis songwritting, hereās a fav of mine, beautiful ballad pinned by carl and sung by dennis, the wilson brothers taking over
this is definitely the one stand out that never gets credit even tho more than half the album is lovely
in popular culture wise.. mm thereās albums that are always less namedropped than pet sounds, thatās a given, but they get their fair share of love or cult following so i wouldnāt categorize it as underrated
i guess in that regard 20/20 would be a good pick, itās more of a compilation album so itās not very consistent or coherent listen, itās all over the place, it showcases the band in 1969 really trying to figure a new sound to catch on within all the culture trends and switches, but at the same time for that same reason it does sound very fitting for 1969, so wild and colorful, i mean after all the beatles did the white album a year prior and itās as if not more incoherent in terms of the flow and style, so why would it be passable for one but not the other?
love this cover on 20/20 itās prolly up there in their most rocking recording, that guitar lead really surprised you for a beach boys cut and really captures that 1969 feel
What is their most underrated album?
Wild Honey. It's part of their Lo-Fi trilogy. It gets a lot of love now because of its influence, but it should've been that way from the get-go. If you're into Lo-Fi or Bedroom Pop make sure to check out that trilogy (Smiley Smile / Wild Honey / Friends)

mmm come to think smiley smile def is underrated too bc it always gets under the shadows of the former project
new video from my favorite youtuber!
as always thereās great stuff to take away that even i didnāt know of!
so the guy who did the carl and passions cover ended up later working for disney and did their iconic posters for aladdin and other stuff of their 90s animated s***, who wouldāve thought !!!
and also the fairy tale ep (thumbnail of the video itself) that comes with holland the artwork is a draw by brian himself! had no idea
unfortunately im probably the only one on ktt who cares for this era ....
@spongebob @Sir_Swagalot one of the rare brian contribution during the early 70s.. he did this ep as a companion to the album holland (on which he like only did one full new song for it that being the AMAZING funky pretty very underrated) and itās one of my fav thing ever, the whole concept is amazing, thereās some narrative over it but i Ike to listen to the instrumental and vocals only edit of it by now , which is what i posted above
it so stylistically unique and brian esque, those chords and harmonies, no one comes up with that.. makes you wish he wouldāve tried a shot at a whole album like that, i think he was inspired by randy newman
when j mascis channeled full on his beach boys love, criminally underrated dino song that didnāt make any album

Yeah it's great. It felt inspired by the music instead of just a life story, if you know what I mean. It felt like listening to the Beach Boys at times, definitely not dry at all.

liking that ranking, you know your s*** not big on holland?
Have any yall seen love and mercy
yea day one, big fan, altho mixed bag bc i can tell when his wife tryna rewrite stuff... but love how, despite trying come off happy ending hollywood cheesy itās shot in a very indie way see the scene when they make good vibrations (shot in the studio where it happened!)
stand out is the scene with the forks and knives where he trips out or when he gets his first lsd or whatever and donāt talk starts mf he starts leaning back, relatable, not for the same reason but relatable
love how they subtly put til i die in the movie too, scene in his bed facing his past was moving, lot of great artistic scenes like this that makes it stand out from regular biopic storytelling
luv da beach boys sampl on dis
itās more likely d*** sale but the bbs did cover that song on their second album
