brian wilson so precious w his old ass self lol
I don't think I'll be listening to the new smile much but I'd like to find all the gems that came out over the years or something
wym so precious with his old ass self?
yeeehh new smile is heh to me
regarding gems ive shared with you already
but hereâs one that breaks the most my heart
in the early 90s there was this miracle where brian and his camp put him around talented people who were actual big fans, several plans to make a beach boys critically acclaimed comeback album with brian were scrapped
one of them was the last one attempted, before carl passed away
only two original brian songs he did with andy paley (which whom he had a very productive collaboration and put some of his best material in years with) were recorded during those sessions before it got called off
so these are the two final beach boys original songs we ever had with carl, and boy do they deliver... one is a soulful inspired song, and the other a pure brian type song (since they released it on the MIC boxset brian vocals has been re-recorded and autotuned but itâs still fine)
imagine if a whole album of this was green lighted and finished, how their legacy wouldâve been healed for a minute....

i eventually made my own ultimate âwhat ifâ 90s beach boys album where i put together songs from brians first solo, beach boys 90s attempted songs and some little liberties to make the best out of it
and boy itâs a killer beach boys, absolute classic that goes against their best material ever.. never lost it

not in a bad way
that soul searchin is crack whew
that breakdown at like 1 minute on mystery
s*** had so much cool s*** going on at once

carl on chemo treatment killing it... how

cause that music is a lifeforce in itself

brian wrote so many great stuff with andy for a potential beach boys album during that era and he was beyond thrilled about that material ... as he should, s*** was classics on classics for days
this on repeat... @spongebob
"If Brian Wilson and George Clinton had a kid.... He'd be ugly af but he would sound like the Red Hot Chili Peppers." - Chris Rock
had to add that thanks @Teal_ lol

adore this song, how many goats can keep for so long such left overs..
i have found spot for the album too
one of my friends i got into the bbs said this has become his favorite album oat and that brian has just pure innocence in him
i really feel that
imagine if he did that album with the boys tho
what a comeback single the title song wouldâve been
this acapella mix too:

he reworked that song a number of times, but this version is clearly the definitive version. I'm glad he revisited it and perfected it. dude is beyond special. god bless brian wilson

agree, he nailed it on that one even if the prod can be dated it still shines through
preach brother
love this one too
itâs crazy that this album which was the result of ex wrestler joe thomas total nobody who produces tv commercials or something taking over the talents of andy paley and sean ohagan ended up so nice
did you guys know in the mid 90s brian reconnected with tony asher, the great lyricist of pet sounds?
only two songs has been released from these sessions that also involved the great andy paley
this isnât love:
(oddly enough before dropping that version, they first released an only instrumental version of it)
and everything i need:
as you can tell this isnât released as a brian solo song, it was given to his daughters band, he is featured on the bridge and hal blaine, the iconic pet sounds drummer is also featured on it! a too rare reunion
however if you listen to this version is it produced in a very clean, adult contemporary fashion way which is typical of joe thomas as ive mention above, as mucch as i love imagination the album, im not a fan of this opportunist ..
thank fully the demo of the song has surfaced, which features the same gang but without the soft production, more closer to a pet sounds flavor:
here is another version recorded by jeff foskett, longtime backing vocals for the beach boys since the 80s, whoâs been on every released project since until they parted way post 50th reunion, but he is on most brian albums, including smile, the falsetto is mostly him, he is on the beach boys reunion album
either way, am not personally a fan of him, he sounds artificial in his falsetto, but he did cover everything i need to make justice to the demo style, it also features brian but not hal blaine whatsoever, but itâs nice to hear in a good production a take on the song and with vocals of jeff that does make a good impression of young brian either way:
here is hal blaine talking about the song, how they got together, how he loves the song and called it the record of the year, how joe thomas got in the way of it and ruined it, all amazing insightful stuff, heartbreaking too tho... if you thought brian was free once landy was out and his wife came in, think again... timestamp 3:29

yeh they only did one album tho, which even has a cover of til i die (unfortunately butchered by joe thomas prod)
they were more productive as wilson phillips which is the supergroup they did with the daughter of john phillips (mama and papas singer songwriter who did kokomo and somewhere near japan), they had multiple albums and some hits, one of their single has like some 40 mil views on youtube so ig they did big back in the day
