i know itās my fav gif i had to put it somewhere near op so these two questions were basically an excuse but itās a valid question
it wasnāt intended as such, brian said himself he didnāt intend pet sounds as concept songs nor concept lyrics but he did say he consider is a production concept, it shows and justifies it in my book
at the same time all i wanna do wasnāt intended as to be proto shoegaze or chillwave, thatās how you birth things! so in hindsight, yes pet sounds IS a concept album, not just in the traditional way that has been established and cultured later as some will say āwell itās not american idiot concept albumā no bc american idiot is rock opera, thatās different, pet sounds still has a theme from start to finish sonically wise
roger waters himself said pet sounds completely changed records for him and he picked up on that to create what would become the essence of a modern concept album with the dark side of the moon, wish you were here, animals, the wall.. he even got the beach boys doing some of the harmonies on the wall actually
so yeah, pet sounds definitely inserted the seeds

this is why in my book brian wilson is the only one who earns the legitimate title of genius; he first birthed surf rock as we know it, before the bb there was surf instrumentals, but thatās it, he and his family picked on that scene, added harmonies group singing picked from bands like four freshmen and with dennis wilson genius idea to make the lyrics about the surfing scene which was hot and up coming at the time, and boom they put california on the map, the bbs invented this california glorification before anyone else did
but not only that, they then, at their peak, shut it down, brian murdered what he birthed with pet sounds and smile, made two records which sounds nothing like youāve ever heard before, listen to surfās up, do you know any other artist that made something that sounds like this musically, before him? anyone who did it after was in homage to that, and the dude was only 20yo with a deaf ear, no classical music training orchestrating an orchestra by himself, no help from an older producer to stitch things up or do the arrangements like george martin did for the beatles, THATS why the bbs won
listen to this r.e.m song for example, isnāt this a total bb tribute in its arrangement and production?
one thing that distinguishes brian productions is that he hated hi hats so that really defines the very unique style of his touch through pet sounds and smile, and thatās why you can tell in later productions when someone is ghost producing him or doctoring his stuff as to make it more commercial appealing
What yāall know about this
i was gonna save this to present it later on and recommend to you and other hardcore bbs stans itt who wants some āpet soundsā fix
did you know he almost did an album with the bbs in the 90s? what couldāve been, i love this album and recommend it to anyone who wants to get a hold of something that sounds like pet sounds
@Yolko
@Womanpuncher69 love this fancover
holy s*** this amazing never knew Rivers can sing like that. I still have red album on repeat itās perfect iām too scared to march forward in their discography iām afraid of being disappointed but iāll save that for the weezer thread. i might also have to make a playlist for LA girls related songs so far i Weeknd Post BB and Weezer
i feel like im the only beach boys stan who doesnt have this as one of their top favorites in my top 10ish but p not top 5. still god level of course

oh no thats a cover a fan made thatās not rivers i just thot it was cool how he covers it in style of pet sounds
youāre gonna love the white album! the black album is kinda similar in terms of creativity of red imo, itās what it reminds me the most of, just more modern pop, not as solid tho
you still have great stuff coming, you have a low bottom run up next, raditude and hurley arent highly regarded, but it picks up again with everything will be alright in the end and white album who are both considered classics by now, pacific daydream divides more ppl it gets hate but itās actually like my third fav weezer album, it even has a song about the bbs in it
(there is a LOT of beach boys references to dig in from weezer end, ill make a post about it if u want hehe)

post is facts but i think the original 'instrumental' surf rock style is the definitive surf rock style and the vocal stuff is just more of an offshoot. ex when people are talking about surf rock influence i feel they are usually talking about the d*** dale type stuff especially the distinctive guitar. instrumental surf rock is the music that sounds like surfing itself. the vocal surf rock is just (also great) music that talks about surfing
i think hes the ultimate genius of music, but i would still call a bunch of others geniuses too. hes just like the einsten of this s***
sometimes i just listen to this

Thatās what really stood out on what Iāve heard, just the melody and the harmony theyāve got going. It seems to simple when youāre listening to it, but then I think about every song Iāve heard that uses something similar and itās kinda mind blowing to think about.
But thatās really interesting stuff. I didnāt realize just how much they were at the forefront of things.
This is the song that āSurfās Upā made me think of when I was listening to it.
well what is ur top then queen
top 3 no order = good vibrations, god only knows, wouldnt it be nice
then (no order):

oh yeh i just meant he took on that and made a whole new movement out of it but ur right, i would never discredit the great d*** dale
itās insane the copycats they birthed from way back in the day as soon as they exploded, this for example (which is isnāt a real band itās a one man studio project, the artwork is just to fake it)
what a fun song tho no?
and to this VERY day, check this out:
(lol look at the cove it even pays homage to the all summer long artwork itās the same)
these guys are very talented actually i talked to the singer songwriter heās really nice and so is the rest of the band (i asked them to cover rio grande as a challenge lol)
they did bunch of stuff like that, songs that redoes the style of love you, they go deep, this one for example is a ātil i die song type beat:
but i digress
@Fantasy youll like this tho

and you would think the same if you listen to this:
and you would be right because the guys doing the harmonies on this song are none other than the beach boys themselves lol
