This woulda all been on an album is what im saying dumbass
And I'm saying the fact he couldn't have one song as good as this on his album shows that it wouldn't have worked
Dumbass
White people gotta go back to making this type of music. We don’t like it when yall tryna be rappers
Sombr
I’m not at all versed enough on the genre to have an opinion of substance on the matter. I’ve been seeing the discourse in timeline though, it seems to have spawned this from that conversation
black culture is getting more and more divorsed from its origins and its been a constant even since before we were born. just like slave gospels had marginally less to do with their native african parents music when they were first brought to america. its an interesting phenomenon @op read amiri baraka blues people if you havent. many things at play there including societal changes, the development of the music industry, as well as other industries, media, etc.
I been saying with the rise of the reclamation of the “Soulaan” moniker, I think more conversations are gonna be had about things like this, especially with Hip Hop aging, and the sound changing so much. Race & Culture will not be as intertwined as we view it today in the States. I think if “Soulaan” movement (not FBA) gains mass adoption, it forces the examination of Soulaan culture specifically, as opposed saying “the culture” which vaguely encompasses all things Black happening the US. Further examination of Soulaan culture and Hip Hop. Are they the same thing? Then that opens up the conversation of exactly who actually is of Hip Hop culture, and who’s actually a guest?
i'm here to boomer up this thread and boldly claim that Silent Alarm is the best major label rock album of the past 25 years

https://twitter.com/imbabytate/status/1985397621478039881Nah I thought this overnight and she 100% in the right man foh.
Regardless of the demographic that receives the said artist’s music, it is 100% black.
The position against this is the reason Lenny Kravitz (in his own words) felt he never was accepted by the black demographic music-wise.

Mans made a whole divorce album about Lisa Bonet after f***ing up the relationship, what’s more blacker than that?
(Im clearly being faceitous but lenny had JOINTS dawg.)
Shaboozey’s biggest hit is literally because of J-Kwon.
Conclusion: Its a fine line between “every black person that makes music isnt black music” and “you talk white”
White people gotta go back to making this type of music. We don’t like it when yall tryna be rappers
no deep insight into this but those Alameda songs in op im not a fan i will leave it at that
the last song is fine lyrics are corny but it sounds good
also this is an example of statistical bias
you found one artist who exemplifies this trend theyre pointing out because they probably have never seen a modern black rock artist until this point (the twitter replies are guilty of the same bias)
theres no real trend here its just one very strong outlier giving the impression of some causal dynamic that doesnt actually exist
sound like bleood
i love how i cant tell what is 808 and what is just chaos
edit: holy f*** im dumb my bad

Dont really have any insights to offer. But as a black artist who makes rock from time to time. Def gives me something to think about with ny own tunes. Good thread
