if this flops financially itll be so bad for black cinema in the states lmao
I mean this is not getting the best marketing plus a release in January? if it flops, it won't be a surprise and I don't think it'll mean anything in the grand scheme of black cinema

idk...
this is one of the very very very few tentpole studio films with a black lead and mostly black supporting cast
AND A BLACK DIRECTOR
the film has a very strong ensemble and a lot of exposure is being put on Jeymes as possibly the most prevalent mainstream black filmmaker executing on that blockbuster scale.
sucks cuz most people that saw it at LFF have given it good reviews

The Blackening movie from this past year is getting a sequel at least

How so? Does anybody even know about this movie? They Cloned Tyrone had more hype and that was on Netflix.
You guys acting like the studio expects this to be their next tent pole franchise. Looks like an original fun comedy
Plus the director’s first movie went to Netflix. This is his first movie getting a wide theatrical release

it's not a franchise starter and you say it looks like an original fun comedy but it's not currently being marketed as such. In reality it's an Epic, a loud, ambitious, story that hoards a bunch of genres. And yeah this is his first wide theatrical release but you acting like The Harder They Fall was like Atlantics or sum...that was a 90 MILLION dollar film for a debut of a Black filmmaker do you understand how insane that is. I honestly bet Book of Clarence cost more. Harder They Fall didn't make much in theatres but became a hit on Netflix, and i find the cultural footprint that comes with a lot of Netflix projects very suspect.

exactly, people don't know about it and a lot of money was put behind it.

Gotta remember the director Jeymes is also a musician who has Hov in his corner. Jay also produced Harder They Fall and Jemyes directed this:
Jay must like him cause he throwing a lot of money behind him
the most fun i’ve had at the movies all year! Jeymes delivered again with a concept that could’ve easily gone wrong (thinking of that Year One movie with Jack Black) Lakeith, RJ and Omar Sy were the stand out performances. While it balances out comedy and drama pretty evenly throughout most of it in the third act it gets a lot more serious which might be a turn off for some people 7.8/10

Why the f*** is this played so straight? Shouldn’t it be an outrageous parody? I don’t understand the tone, the audience, the point…
Truly baffling
Wait a second, people like this?
Nothing about this makes sense to me
After the wonka review the hits keep on coming. man your little rants are my nightly comedy lmao.

I legitimately expected to see this torn apart by critics and audiences
I’m shocked
I found this to be unbearably dull
