:word: too far? they overprotected now? the prejudice is solved? misogyny solved?
You know that's not what I meant.
@illegalnecessity Your message did not fall on deaf ears.

i know,
but i mean there was plenty criticism of noname in the thread already,
his overall point was important even if it wasn't perfectly worded at every turn- thats what happens when u have emotionally driven speech coming from the heart, u might get a lil aggressive but these issues are worth getting aggressive over,
especially when J. Cole is what 35 talking about some I wish she would talk in a nicer tone about this
Dude really went a whole hour strawmanning cole and not once did he mention the s*** noname did wrong, just made excuses.
Some of yall take the protect black women s*** too far
At one point he told people they're too immature to get it but when he got frustrated with people disagreeing (some of them were disrespectful I concur)
he resorted to name calling (, losers) and even told those who still didn't get it to go kill themselves/don't procreate with black women.
He should've been more prepared to argue the points he feels so strongly about (I believe he's justified in his feelings)

I know what his overall point was, but dude literally went a whole hour not once mentioning anything that NoName did wrong. Just completely shat on Cole.
That just says that he don't wanna admit that she did anything wrong.
And all of keep acting like Cole just telling her she shouldn't be upset about things, but dude said she shouldn't be usiing that tone with people on her SIDE, acting like she's better than them .
The line about him having a problem with the queen tone
is like backhanded though.
It's not just this song but more subtle nods to misogynist views
it's not overt crazy just sayin something like "bitches thots blah blah blah"
(and btw I'm not trying to s*** on u or none of that because - we've seen how these threads get when it gets out of control. I'm down to hear ur opinion and where u coming from.)
Being a woke scold is not a s***specific critique. To make it one is to hide behind identity. It's weaponizing intersectionality to silence dissent. In America, the (capitalist-critical, empire-critical) left is largely a middle class movement. As such, it is kind of a book club. It's a lot of professionals, a lot of intellectualizing, a lot of scholarship. While that is important for a core of a movement to have, it isn't going to win the broad base you need. As evidenced by the fact it hasn't.
Now, I don't think Cole needed to respond to Noname's tweet anymore than she needed to make it. Twitter doesn't matter. Both are being self-important. Him for thinking this a moment to catch feelings. Her for thinking it's the moment to chide celebrities who do not matter. The action that happened after George Floyd's death wasn't brought about by Noname's reading series. It was vulgar proles squeezed by the failed COVID response and collapsing economy set off by a long history of police brutality they experience. Neither Noname nor Cole are central to that.

I get that, but its still tone policing, and she shouldn't have to baby people.
That's a really low standard
I know what you're saying, Noname isn't beyond criticism, but at the same time, a lot of people were hating on her and its just like: Let her speak god damn
And Cole been retweeting what she said and saying to follow her for guidance on the issues etc
But his flaws on the s*** are more subtle
The s*** is just one example of a much larger problem

I don't disagree, i think ego fits into all of it,
and we need the broadest support possible I agree,
That being said, I wholeheartedly believe misogyny works its way into how people are perceiving what noname is saying. And that's inevitable given culture and how s*** has operated since forever.
I feel like we agree on a lot of s*** but I'm still saying that the tone-policing in itself was just a couple lines in a song but the greater issue is informing it.

I'm saying invalidating Cole's critique on the basis of Noname being a woman isn't discourse. That's shushing.

We can't get mad at him for "tone policing" when she was demanding that Kendrick and Cole put out tweets, policing how they respond to acts of injustice against black people.
This is the type of stuff I'm talking about. We can get at Cole, but niggas wanna act like there aint wrong being done on both ends.
Like as long as people just be like "hey Cole did this/NoName did this" its fine but you got niggas like dude, going on hour long rants acting like Noname a saint just because she a black woman.

fair enough
I think they both bring good points to the table but it just reminds me of how far we gotta go
especially when so much of discourse is dominated by men, because society has uplifted men for so long and belittled womens voices
I'm not saying cole is doing this, i just think theres problematic s*** to address
U can be informed by the problem and not be directly but rather indirectly reinforcing it

Yeah i def don't agree w the initial tweets
but i also think its dumb that it was that tweet that caused cole to make a track,
theres a lot of dumb parts to this
Just want to add that it's toxic to pull the "stop being a white knight, she ain't gonna f*** you" card the moment someone defends a woman on the other end of a debate with a popular rapper. I see this all the time and it's so played out. Women, especially black women, need support from men because we have a platform and privilege of our own.
Ima say 1 last thing
U ever read or seen someone say something that wasn’t overtly racist, but it felt off, and u kinda caught that vibe, even if it’s not fully on display,
That’s how it felt with misogyny with coles track. Like it was lurking in the background
that doesn’t mean he didn’t make valid points because there are some.
fair enough

Again with the weaponizing of identity. Popular consensus on this is Cole is wrong and Noname is right. Cole is the singular sexist according to the majority. You're having it your way. Enjoy it. It doesn't matter.

Maybe this exchange will be what it takes for Cole to get more educated on some of the issues.
That’s a win f*** Twitter

It's about me! It's all about me!
Will say this tho, NoName d***riding aside, I did take this opportunity to call other black women I know and get their perspective on black men oppressing black women.
Was gonna ask them about that “black men are the white people of black people” thing but my “all lives matter” ass “I support the nazis” ass “Trump is the GOAT” ass roommate was in the room and I really don’t feel like hearing this nigga mouth

Ian dealing with niggas like that anymore at this point bro u either get it or you don’t.
I’m totally fine with being on this side of history
