I think Kanye has the potential for another classic / BEST ALBUM EVER
DONDA wasn’t anything special but it had a good number of songs that showed Kanye still got it
Like that OP is listing people who couldn’t even put out a good album. And asking them to make the best album ever.
Data shows gen z and younger millennials dont even consume albums anymore its all about playlists. Is it even possible to have overwhelming classics in that general population? (Obviously this is excluding music nerds who are in this age group)
Ding ding ding
Albums are played out
also, there’s wayyyy too many voices that critique music rn making a universal classic harder and harder to come by
But to answer, it may be Drake - CLB or Views.
Internet may have conflicting opinions about it, but it clearly is being championed by the masses at large in a way that may age well over time
Drake is only getting worse unfortunately
I agree.
But I think if he locked in with 40 and made another concise record, he could make mbdtf level album

i don’t even listen to playlists
Just imagine how much nitpicking would have been done on MJ or prince albums if they dropped and YouTube and Twitter was the way it is today
Groupthink / music criticism is so nasty rn,

I’ve always thought that to be the case but what data?

Dont care about playlists either tbh still rather listen to albums. Flooding an album with 20+ songs and hoping a couple of them are added on to your everyday listeners playlist will probably become the norm though imo

I honestly heard daniel ek talk about it in an interview and found it interesting so searched for some articles. I cant remember the specific site that showed the data on genz/millenials but the data (im not sure if it was specifically from a DSP or just a survey) showed that album consumption for people under 30 is almost dead

Idk who you hang around but I don't think I've ever heard ANYBODY call clb or views the best album of all time, let alone the years they dropped in

Eh...I don't think Views is bad or anything but I just don't see people retroactively touting it as a masterpiece. Maybe an arguable classic at most.
People will be fond of it because of nostalgia and the hits similar to Blueprint 3 or C4 but I don't see it being held up as one of the best albums of all time.
And CLB? Noooo way. Even Akademiks can't defend that one lol.
