North Korea not opening themselves up to the world with an international sports tournament 10+ years in the making. He wasn't just there trolling, it's a global event

Does Islam justify slavery? Just curious

Depends on the circumstances. Race based slavery like the trans Atlantic slave trade is forbidden however, and in the modern day slavery is unneeded.

    This kinda true

Some countries really don't play about that kinda stuff

Doesn't make it right but they don't care about the West opinion

This is all the way true and it's crazy the argument just doesn't end there

i’m leaning towards yes off top but killing them or any type of worker/servant is seen as wrong

treating your workers like they do is frowned upon too (islamically), a lot of workers dead, many muslim too, i don’t wanna hear justification about that

Treating workers poorly is unjustifiable, but why wasn’t there a public outcry against China when they hosted the Olympics and had even worse worker conditions? Or against Russia who hosted a previous World Cup? Or against Chinese made products in general which are made in sweatshops? Why the double standard?

They are forbidding something which is forbidden in their religion. Whether you think homophobia is wrong or not is irrelevant, you have no right to go to a country and demand the people abandon the teachings of their religion

If your religion says that homophobia is okay, I think your religion is stupid and should be criticized. No one is 'demanding' anything.

I think Abortion is a complex issue that can be justified in some cases, but the vast majority of abortions in the US aren’t justifiable. Why?

So when China was hosting the Olympics, would it have been wise for me to show up with a shirt that says “F Xi Jinping for human rights abuses.” If I get arrested, who can I blame but myself?

I could not give a f*** less if you think my religion is stupid. You don’t get to tell me not to follow my religion. Should I go to the next World Cup in America and start advocating for polygamy, which is illegal here? If I think it’s stupid that polygamy is illegal, do I get to run on the field with a flag advocating polygamy when I know it’s considered unacceptable here?

Did the BBC skip those countries opening ceremony? Were there calls to boycott those games? Don’t play dumb, NO country has received as much vitriol as Qatar for hosting a sporting event.

China was under fire in 2008 for hosting the Olympics, British prime Minister at the time said no British representatives would be present in Russia

    1. The shirt he wore was a football with a rainbow around it. No, I don't think he should be expected to be arrested for that in North Korea, China or any other country you come up with
    2. He wrote about human rights abuses. Again, in global tournaments like this one should allowed to write about things like this? Am I wrong? They're supposed to be a civilised country opening themselves up to the the world, they can't take that criticism?

it’s also the callous way they talk about it too, at least other countries TRY to act like they give a s***, they don’t care enough to do that

Of course they don’t. I’m well aware they are hypocrites, who decry “workers conditions” while typing from phones made from sweatshop workers.

I find it hard to trust western sources when it comes to any middle Eastern nation, but if this is true then it is categorically immoral. But the thread wasn’t about this and most of the outcry isn’t

America is a borderline failed state, but as of 2022 you are free to do all of those things here. I don't have any problem with it.

But if your belief system tells you that homophobia is cool, I wouldn't want you around me or my community.

I don't think criticism of a foreign country should be about changing things abroad, which is a hopeless battle anyways. I think it's about coming to a consensus within your community about right and wrong.

Whether you tolerate disrespect to your belief system or not is completely irrelevant to me. You don’t get to go to Muslim lands and loudly declare “your religion is false and immoral” without consequences. You western dogs are not the arbiters of morality, and you are not the police of the world as your colonialist ancestors have led you to believe. There are consequences for your actions.

Islam is also not the arbiter of morality and Iran cannot police its surrounding countries as Shia extremism has led people to believe.
