General Age/Time Period Stats

• Starting with the general stats, it looks like the 18-24 age group dominates the Kanye Section (no surprise there), with ~62% of users falling within that group.

• The time period in which users started listening to Kanye also turned out to not be too big of a surprise, considering the Age Group %, with almost half of posters starting to listen to Kanye between 2005-2010 (so post College Dropout, around the Late Registration Era to MBDTF Era). This is making me feel old already fam

• The time period within age groups shows how the 18-24 group is almost evenly split between starting to listen to Kanye between 2005-2010 and 2011-2016. The 2005-2010 time period dominates the 25-31 age group, and the 2004 or before period dominates the 32+ grouping.

(Personally, this surprises me a bit, I thought there would be more in the 25-31 range who started listening 2004 or before (that's what I fall under))

The album rankings

• Starting off simple, overall, it looks like MBDTF is the section favorite, with Yeezus not far by behind. What surprises me here is more people liked LR more than CD, my personal favorite at this moment.

• Moving onto overall average rating, it looks like again, Dark Fantasy is yet again the winner with Yeezus not far behind

Album ratings by Age Group and Time Period

• It looks like the 25-31 age group is the most critical of Kanyes discog, scoring the albums the lowest 6 out of 9 times. This is particularly interesting to me, because I for sure thought the 32+ crowd would be the most critical. Instead, the 32+ age group views Kanyes catalog with the most reverence, scoring albums the highest 6 out of 9 times.

Kind of defeats the old head argument

• Now for the ranking based on the time period a given poster started listening to Kanye.

Definitely found out some interesting information with this survey. The big surprise to me is Late Registration being the Rank 3 Kanye album. While its an amazing album, I never really see it get talked about that much on here.

Also, super interesting to me that the 32+ seems to love Kanyes work the most, as most people usually typecast them to be the most critical.

If I was to do this again, there are a few things I would do differently:

• Instead of following standard age grouping, I would have created smaller age groups (i.e. 18-21, 22-25, 26-29, 30+). I should have realized 18-24 dominates the site, and by utilizing smaller age groups we could have seen more of a variance between the main population of users.

• I would have also chosen a wider album rating scale, i.e. 1-10 instead of 1-5. I originally thought 1-5 would have been better, as it would cause more of a push to make a decision. However, I failed to take into account how highly scored Kanyes work will naturally be.

So I thought it would be cool to get a real idea of how the Kanye Section views Kanye's career.

I know we have done album rankings in the past, but this is different. I would like to gather album rankings based on an anonymous age group, as well as when you started listening to Kanye. My findings will be published in an easy to read graph format.

Link to the survey is below, probably takes 20 seconds to fill out, and doesn't require any input on your end, aside from clicking buttons for your responses. I will leave it open for a few days. If not enough people respond, then I will just can the idea.

I can tell you that: they f*** w pablo a lot (some think its his best) while older fans see it as his first weaker album

i think 1-5 forces a more concise decision, there’s not too many numbers to choose from so you really have to make a choice.

i.e. a 6 or 7 on a 1-10 scale can be considered not too much of a difference, whereas 3 or 4 on a 1-5 scale can be vastly different

also i was thinking about doing 10 but it was honestly just too much for me to handle when making the survey. It was gonna be like 90 inputs as opposed to 45
