No one in this thread will say Kendrick is gonna keep rap afloat for another 10 years. And no one will have a legitimate superstar in mind that will carry it for another 10 years

TBF I doubt Drake could carry hip-hop for another 10 years. He might retire by then.
This entire thread is full of s*** tho.

I agree, I’m saying this expedited the fall off of hip hop. No one to pass the torch to and this divide and conquer move made it less likely the genre will stay as popular as before. Already decreasing in popularity. This didn’t help

it's not Curry's era unfortunately, he was only acknowledged as a transcendent player of the 2010s from 14/2015 onwards
We have to respect the work people put in, Kawhi (on a lower level ) will never be in certain conversations either because of similar reasons
Curry is the greatest shooter ever & the most impactful individual for the 3pt boom but the Harden Rockets were very influential for that too, as soon as Harden got there (12/13) they shot to the top of the league in 3pointers attempted.

Curry hadn't even been recognised as an all star player yet (although I'd argue he was great from the beginning of his career despite the injuries holding him back slightly)

Like I said, I already know how this was gonna go so we can agree to disagree.

All I'm gonna add is that just because it's dubbed someone else's era it doesn't necessarily mean they're the best player of their generation.

This doesn’t matter at all and it isn’t even relevant to what he’s saying lmao

Drake has been the commercial #1 for years but he has never been the most influential or impactful in any category for hip-hop as a genre literally at all

Most of today’s rap game takes after the Future’s, Thug’s, Wayne’s, Keef’s etc.

It comes down to how we’re defining era here but it should be a lot more deeper than just who’s the most popular imho. Curry completely changed the game of basketball and all of his success was homegrown and organic

Y’all love Lebron on here though so I already know how this is gonna pan out

One is highly intangible and subjective while the other is filled with quantitative and statistical data that can make valid arguments

    Good

The game needs to move on and find new stars. Drake hasn’t brought anything fresh to the table in ages and relying on him to carry only hurts hip hop in the long run

You have valid points but weird ones too. You said he didn’t carry the genre forward or do anything meaningful. I would argue he shaped the whole sound of hip hop from at least 2010-2018/20

i get where you're coming from, but i dont understand this take

its not like drake is acting like swift and blocking artists from releasing good music, what about drake is stopping a new artist from coming up?

    Whose up next?

I don’t know, I don’t think anybody knows for sure.

I do think the mindset of “this is so and so’s era” in a time when young rappers are afraid of losing connections has stolen a lot of competitive fire from hip hop. Nobody new wants to be that guy if it means they don’t get the feature they want. Everyone is playing it safe unless they’re already positioned right.

  • I think it’s similar to a LeBron where they’ve just been so good for so long that the love turns to hate. Then a few years down the line it reverses again and people appreciate it because what was a common thing becomes a void. 50 cent had a similar thing but it was much shorter due to self infliction and excessive beef

No one has star capabilities it seems like. We still talk the big 3

    Ok

But how did he catch a Nokia and a Somebody loves me? I thought he would never have another hit record by himself. After years of relying on features.

Influence and cultural impact both artistically and sports wise are largely intangible. I didn’t mention a word about stats at all. In both fields there are people that directly shape and change the way the game (or music) respectively is made that cannot be directly measured or quantified neatly into a graph or numbers. This basically goes for any field with a competitive aspect to it

Music in general is slow right now, even country isn’t going as crazy as it was
