Early 2020’s I believe is an underground rap fans dream and I’m not talking Melzcore. I think there’s so many interesting little rappers scattered all over and for the most part everyone makes good music but there’s no one that really pierces the mainstream and that’s where rap is in its worst state

Opium / Cactus Jack and rage scene definitely (I also count LUCKI and them)

Dance / electronic music - Fred Again, Skrillex, Nia Archives, PinkPantheress, Salute, Overmono, Rufus Du Sol, etc.

Think that’s about it bc rest is from last decade

I enjoyed going down the Detroit/Flint rabbit hole in 2020 after Teejayx6 went viral

The Real Rx guys held me down for the longest

Don Toliver has been a great artist and built a solid discog

I’ve enjoyed a little bit of everything when it comes to rap. And I ventured more into rock and jazz this decade.

    Forgot RX they were good

    Great.

Only thing that’s changed is the pandemi lovato’s damn near permanently distorted how folks digest and a***yze music (this thread being a great example of it)

you knocked it out the park. the mainstream is at its lowest but the underground’s smack in the middle of a golden age lol

to be honest, i wonder if that dichotomy is the reason rap looks so unhealthy now. mainstream and underground should never have such a big gap in quality, it’s embarrasing. 2024 was the shakeup we needed imo

i’m most interested in the direction hip-hop takes now that trump is back and shaping up to be significantly more nightmarish than before

Worst half a decade in hip-hop history

Had some great moments though but both early and late 2010s, 00s, definitely 90s, and even 80s easily clears early 20s lol

If we counting late 70s I’ll rank the early 20s over that

I strongly disagree. I’d take the early 20s over the mess of the late 2010s any day

    They both bottom tier tbh

Been a rough 10 years lol

Early 2010s (10’ - 15’) is goated though, would even stretch it to 2016 fr

I think the Early 20s isn’t that bad personally but I feel you.

I agree with Early 10s being GOATED though

To be fair no era of rap is THAT bad (at least not yet)

They are all valid representations of the culture. It just so happens that this era is worse than all the other ones (imo) but it’s still good though

It’s like someone could say DAMN is the “worst” Kendrick album compared to the other ones (I don’t think this but just an example). ALL Kendrick albums are quality so it doesn’t mean that DAMN is necessarily BAD just not as good as the others

  • i got a lot of good music out of it

guess im ready to see how the rest of the decade goes
