I loved The Fix....but no one goes really goes back to that and says it's anything but a really good album.
Lost Tapes is a compilation, a great compilation, but one that is specifically for Nas fans. Lord Willing and CHWM are classics....but not the most impactful albums of that year.
TES had the broadest appeal of any album released in 2002 and is actually a super well crafted album with some of the best verses in Em's career.
Lyrically this is his pinnacle. No one was f***ing with the white boy's pen around this time. 2002 was his moment.
TES is when Em.settles into his stardom and was able to make an album without leaning so heavily on shock tactics, instead doubling down on his bars.
He got gassed off Renegade. He actually believed he was the best MC in the game and after listening to TES, I believed it too.
Hailie's Song is the kind of song that Slim Shady couldn't have made. It's a Pop song and its surprising how effective it is. Top tier songwriting. And that's a deep cut that mostly gets overlooked.
Incredibly average album
Say What You Say >>>>>
Dre x Em back to back never sounded better
Marshall was playing on God Mode on this album lyrically.

That classic boring soulless eminem production
Guilty conscience way better
Edit damn dre produced that, ems boring sound really rubbed off on him
I challenge anyone to find a better closing run of songs then When The Music Stops, Say What You Say, Til I Collapse and My Dad's Gone Crazy.
Damn I miss the old Eminem.... yea it was great...
There were albums that year that were arguably better but Eminem had mastered everything at this point....
Delivery, wordplay, subject matter, songwriting, hooks, etc.
He was the most balanced on this album

Guilty Conscience was a gimmick tho.
soldier one of the only em songs i'm inclined to listen to tho so tes got that going for it

cleanin out my closet will forever be a doozie
'its my life, i'd like to welcome you all to the eminem show'
At since I'm old as f*** I'm gonna give you a true story. Me and my buddies went to see How High and the 8 Mile trailer came on except it wasn't called 8 Mile but I'm Cleaning Out My Closet. Trailer just had that sing playing in the background haha. No joke.

Not many.
Only Lord Willing and The Fix were even close and neither of those albums are as consistent or sonically cohesive as TES.
If you respect Em as a talented MC, you cant deny The Eminem Show being the crown jewel of his discography. It was the most impactful project of the year. Even if you weren't an Em.fan, you couldn't front on songs like Square Dance or Soldier or Superman.
Without Me is the best of Em's "Slim Shady" 1st singles too.
