name a lightskin male actor that gets shine in media nowadays ?

how does that make colorism any less of an issue

Even if I think of all the lightskins I can think of, most of the niggas end up being eye candy and the rest are just women because you gotta have the lightskin woman to love on.

All this arguing over OP’s perception when the truth - which could’ve been googled - is more like:

    • only darker skinned black men are accepted as viable leads cause light skin men are seen as not masculine enough to be A-list stars (which also extends to a noticeable lack of non-brunette leading white men with the “dark=masculine” idea)
    • there aren’t a lot of legit A-list megastar black actresses

Basically film is…behind when it comes to these things. Says a lot that the social art medium (music) is much better when it comes to balanced representation but the escapist fantasy medium (film) is still so far behind. Makes you wonder about America’s collective fantasies when it comes to people

And besides, we should try to figure out how to make it so we’re all represented as one equal black people instead of having this discussion

No I know, what I'm tryna tell you here is to suck it tf up.

The discrimination faced because you're darkskin vs lightskin is meaningless compared to black vs white and focusing on it divides and takes away from the larger problem

we can fight both at the same time imo

If you get rid of white supremacy u gotta get rid of the coons who uphold it within the black communities

How are we supposed to tackle systemic racism when u have people who don't believe it exists in the black community? (worldwide too)

Iirc Haitians killed off all the people they couldn't trust before going to war for revolution so... there's that

That...and I think many people had a problem with the roles dark-skinned people in the show actually had. Either they were characters you hated or a pointless throwaway character with little use.

This isn’t grasping at straws either, this issue is such a common black media study it’s like saying the sky is blue lol I can’t believe this thread is even arguing about this

So lightskin vs dark skin memes weren't a thing like 2 years ago? Never heard of the concept of a house nigga vs a field nigga? Never seen movies like New Jack City?

A very recent TV show I watched- Lovecraft Country- kinda played with themes of having a dark skin lead male get carried by his light skin love interest female, but her sister was dark and portrayed as a loud annoying woman, like how is that always flung under the rug?

Again, stop consuming Tyler Perry movies.

In addition, yes the lightskin vs darkskin s*** is really just a meme. I’m “lightskinned” and it’s never bothered me when niggas joke about lightskin niggas being soft. It’s alway been just a joke.

With regards to representation, I guess we could make even more progress with regards to darker- skinned actresses being better represented (we have already made a lot of progress), but representation in media is such a minor issue in the black community compared to all the other s*** we’re facing, so I really don’t care about that

Fine if it makes sense then whats your call to action of how we change it with actors you think aren't getting shine

    According to dumbfuck logic itt

will Smith existed and is a huge star so no! lightskin men have been lead actors and colorism doesn't exist nor affect any black person (especially not darker people)

No we can't, this is unhelpful

African americans in the 60's-90's understood that richer blacks were advantaged compared to the rest of the pop and that they upheld some toxic views but they put that aside in their community and only cared about their struggles as blacks

Some groups nowadays just feel like their pet issue is bigger than the collective cause and actively divide all of us

You don't gotta be white passing to be light skin.

Will Smith is not that dark. Neither is Michel B Jordan. Like if you stretched that s*** real hard maybe? Like I've seen niggas say Megan Good and Taraji p Henson aren't lightskin but I mean I'd argue they are.
