“ At another point during the performance, his Grammy acceptance speech was replayed on a small television as a young boy — who certainly resembled Liam, the 5-year-old who was incarcerated by ICE in Minneapolis last month — and then Bad Bunny handed him his Grammy Award.”

Misspoke cause I watched at work

I swear any music I see taking a stand like this is blocked out of algorithms or something. There's a local band near me who's always speaking out and their monthly listeners decreased from thousands to just around a couple hundred after and during their first large tour across a ton of states

Im probably just crazy but it feels sketchy how hard it is just to find non-local musicians taking stands today vs just 10 years ago

You’re not crazy. Israel is running gymnastics taking control of all social media platforms and rerouting the algorithm. It’s damn near impossible to get any reach now, if you are not already locked in on whats happening and seeking out information it’s likely it will never pop into your feed. Even the ppl you follow can’t reach you anymore. People who do speak out and start making any kind of impact are silenced, put on a list and put in a box online and oftentimes in the real world. Their intent is to overwhelm us, starve out any movement using ai to identify and obstruct engagement, and leave us with no leaders. People complaining that there isn’t any resistance forming are ignoring the fact you can’t even use the hashtag for Minneapolis anymore. They aren’t going to let you see the revolution, cuz if everyone did, overnight it would become exponential.

Getting called try hard is worth standing for something . It’s why I became such a huge fan of Lupe and took political action while young and got involved in my community. Because if it mattered to an artist making that much why couldn’t I try or explore the issues rather than ignorance is bliss . Many rappers saying nothing . Standing for nothing . Ignorance is bliss . Not our problem attitude besides tap dancing for a democratic candidate is part of our issue

Cardi B spoke more on politics than most of the rappers .Kehlani makes songs about folding clothes but stood up for Palestine . The issue is record execs telling them they will get black balled and often incentivizing staying dumb only speaking on allowed topics

I hear you but in 2026 nobody wants to listen to political music. Especially from a lot of the newer rappers we have now who aren’t even educated in politics.

The audience these days is more interested in what streamers, podcasters and comedians have to say politically than they are about musicians

Was going to say this. Lupe got clowned for his music. Was called a try hard, hectoring, lecturing, etc.

When he made B**** Bad, Women came for him. Which is crazy given how disrespectful some rap songs can get and a not a peep from them.

While it would be cool for artists to call out the government, it's never really received well by the general public
