Samples are really tough cos some could literally just be a drum break but I think when it's a total cover then the original artist should get the credit to an extent. Like to me when Beyonce covers Maze, that's still a part of Frankie/Maze's sales, commercial, cultural and musical legacy.

In terms of impact on the culture, I'd say they're about even. John Lennon's death f***ed people up as much as MJ's did. What tips it in the Beatles' favor is the music quality. The Beatles just have more classic albums than MJ. To be honest, that's gonna have when you have 2, and later on 3 genius songwriters.

And if we were counting Solo Beatles, it'd be no contest, even if you added the Jackson 5 stuff for MJ.
