Grammys have had racism issues for a minute along w misogyny, nepotism and just straight up rigged voting

    Peep: https://pitchfork.com/news/every-allegation-in-former-grammy-chief-deborah-dugans-recording-academy-complaint/amp/

Ex-CEO of the Grammys came out and exposed all the s*** that is ripe in that organization

i didnt say the grammys werent racist but yall justification for this s*** makes no sense

niggas talk like they want black artists to win just because theyre black and not cause of the music itself

just comes off as forced activism

thats valid and obviously you shouldn't have forced representation in something like awards

but you should have forced representation in the voting committee and as of 2021 the voting committee was 73% white while out of the 242 artists who charted a song in 2021 only 46% were white

thats why when you have the history the Grammys have when it comes to acknowledging Black artists people have questions

I figure if say this year was ranked choice some pop star would win

BUT this year was stacked with pop stars, so they all split the vote so they all didn’t get enough votes and Jon Batiste somehow was in first place. Same thing happened when Kacey won I believe. If it was ranked choice. Most likely the pop star would win most years

yeah exactly, so look at the year morning phase won

beyonce, pharrell, sam smith, sheeran, beck

four albums that are essentially pop

it seems quite likely to me beyonce was the most likely #2 choice certainly for people who would have voted for another pop album

the kacey musgraves year, the six hip-hop/r&b albums definitely split the vote to some extent. does this mean kacey NO WAY would have won with ranked choice? i'm not saying that, but her victory would have been predicated on her amassing a sufficient number of second place votes from people who picked one of those six

even in, for instance, the years where adele and bruno won, which i feel almost certain would have happened even with ranked choice, it would be confirmation that it was the most liked album amongst all voters as opposed to the album with the least voter overlap with the other also-well-liked albums

the relevance to Black artists (in "Black genres") is that they are the ones increasingly most likely to split the vote amongst themselves if multiple are nominated

of course obligatory its the grammys it doesn't really matter and is always fun to see top 40 fans salty BUT for their own sake you'd think they might be interested in shoring up their legitimacy

and as another voter said, maybe my prognosis of votesplitting is completely wrong but the voting is not transparent at all so we don't even know (so i suppose they don't care about what people think about their legitimacy in any case)

"Jon only won because he's Black!"

......in an awards category that had 3 other Black artists as nominees?
