my family had gone to a family friends house and saw it get announced on the news
it was weird because I knew plenty of Michael Jackson songs at that point but didn't know by name who Michael was. My mom and her friend were shook but it didn't really sink in until we were driving back home and they were playing MJ songs in a marathon
