The only one that is confused is you. They mentioned nothing about ownership and the issue isn’t about ownership. All they wanted to see is the books so they can confirm they are getting paid out the percentage they all agreed upon.
They saw the accounting and don't believe the numbers. Joe is using his money from other deals to pay them. He does not need to show them those books.
Plus they do mention ownership. Rory talks about when they stood outside a show discussing equity.

Does not make sense to do it like that at all.
Joe and Ians position is theres no deal, so they’re moving money around.
Rory and Mal think he misappropriated funds from the first spotify deal.
Neither Mal or Rory think Joe was stealing from them, (which he said in the live, but then proceeded to still say they’re calling him a thief) they just wanted to know where the money is coming so everything is straight.
Joe in his eyes was being a good guy by “over paying” them allegedly, and is mad that they’re still asking for the books. He thinks because he allegedly over pays them he doesn’t have to abide by any contractual obligations
It's real simple - I can't believe this is still in the news cycle.
Rory and Mal got percentage deals of profits made from the pod (a commission)
Joe claims the pod wasn’t make enough so he was paying them more than the pod could support but adding in his own money and earnings from other s***.
Mal and Rory saw the pod earnings. Didn’t believe the numbers. Joe wouldn’t show them his other earnings (within his rights).
Mal and Rory don’t understand their contracts and roles outside of hosting the pod.
Mal and Rory claim they don't care about contracts or money but are complaining about money.
This is ultimately a communication breakdown due to the casual nature of the business and their friendship.
The lesson is for anyone starting a business with a friend is to iron out all the details at the start not as money comes in.

Even if this good guy Joe narrative is true, he’s still at fault for not being upfront about it
Rory & Mal are not some contract workers he brought in, he’s had a 10+ year relationship with both of them, and they been on the pod practically (literally in Rory’s case) since day 1. He wanna act like he’s a super hero for protecting them, when they ain’t asking for that at all
Do you actually believe this?
That's what both sides have said. Look past all the spicy talk and the key details.
This is a dispute about pay and percentage. They don't believe the numbers as they started on their show. But they also say the don't care about contracts and pay.
Joe says roughly the same thing but in a offensive manner. He showed them the books they don't believe it so he was offended because they're calling him a liar.

I agree. I'm not talking about personalities and who is right or wrong. That is just a concise summary of what the issue is based on what both parties have said.

“Joe claims the pod doesn’t make enough so he was paying more than the pod could support.”
How does this make sense ???? They are profit sharing partners getting paid off a %. They need to know how much is coming in to see how much they’re getting paid even if that means they are taking less than they normally do b/c there is no deal in place.
Also Joe never showed the accounting after they caught the $400k mistake.
It’s also not about money it’s about Joe being shady and not being willing enough to show them the accounting even though it’s stated in their contracts. All they wanted to do is to VERIFY their pay that they’re getting which should be a simple request if you’re not being shady.
Joe just doing music executive moves 101. Make it look like you’re paying a lot up front, so that the artist don’t ask no question about the back end.
Mans with a Patrick Bateman avi supporting another sociopathic narcissist, how ironic

forgot the part where they are contractually obligated to see the numbers, and joe saying he doesn't care about what contracts say
its not a both sides thing, joe is a pos. probably stealing from them but that's conjecture

Huh, that was joes claim?
He says he's overpaying them and using his money from other deals.
Of there are no profits there's no pay. They would have zero revenue workout joes supplementary income.

do you listen to the pod? and for how long? imo, its about the money, but its really deeper than that. joe contradicted himself a thousand times. its to be expected. but even joe spinning the employee narrative when rory and mal themselves said they believed it was the 3 of them bossed up over parks. the AK thing, joe saying rory joined the pod at ep 17. joe is really a mentally ill guy

Yes, both parties said they've seen the numbers. But roryvand mal don't believe the numbers based on an alleged error. Joe doesn't not have to prove his revenue from other sources tho which is where their pay is coming from according to Joe
Let's say you and I work together on a pod. And I'm paying you a commision based on earnings but the deals dry up so I use my supplementary income from my side gigs to keep paying you. If you ask to see those books I don't have to show you because that income is not pod related. I'm simply paying from my money.
Joe the whole podcast was saying they had a salary and now in the live he admits it was profit sharing. This guy is nuts and a liar
f*** joe

I listened to all pods around this topic. I'm not saying Joe may not be pulling shady s***. I broke down all their claims which are over money. Both sides are contradicting themselves. But with emotion, anger and lies that's to be expected. As for being employees and having a hierarchy above Paris is standard. Rory and mal were basically managers, then parks as the engineer then all the other guys below.
Having a hierarchy is common. I'm a director at my company but I wouldn't say I own the business as it's a global company with a CEO and founders. I can also be fired at any time.

you don't have to
but that's not the issue anyways
they would have been cool with whatever joe's arrangement was
they just wanted to know where it was coming from
