I feel like it’s a sign of how they changed as people, how being ingrained in a real community for years has affected their outlook on other humans... they’ve probably conditioned themselves to be more trusting

I could see them trusting a single person to not try anything but when it comes to a group of people you're cleaely outnumbered and outgunned by. I don't think anyone especially joel would not be dumb enough to at least be on defense. But once again the scene was executed beautifully
