this is the exact reaction and experience I think the game was intendingAbsolutely! The cycle of violence is the entire premise of the game. It’s why I never understood the lazy critique from those who would rather see it and the studio seemingly burned to the ground calling the ending a cop out lmfao. It’s literally the hardest decision in the world to make. The cop out would have been simply killing her. That would have been easy. You’ve watched this person destroy someone you love right in front of you. You would be well within your right to choke her until her eyes pop out but what would you have gained? Both characters up to that point had been largely motivated by revenge and in the process, both lost everything. Ellie, in that moment, was tasked/burdened with breaking that cycle and regaining her sense of self before slowly becoming the very thing she feared all along. In a world full of monsters, sometimes your greatest currency can be your humanity. Who knew

I’d love to see more Abby, but I’m not sure she’d even want to hunt down Ellie. I think their story and dynamic ended at that boat and they never saw each other again
