Aye man I was in Spiderman thread talking about reviews cause I don't be really looking at them
I was on metacritic rn doing a deepdive looking at reviews
But what I don't understand is, why some very popular games like
idk lets say Ocarina of time, MGSV, elden ring, GTA V
Whatever
All the loved and known games have like user scores capping around 15k-20k ratings max
Last of Us 2 has 162k
I legit never seen this before in my life and now I'm confused what the hell man why
Is there any other media that has this much I couldn't google it right it doesn't show up thats nuts man
Witcher 3 has like 18k bro
Breath of the Wild, Super Marios whatever all similar range
RDR2 - 22k

That right there just shows you that you can’t trust user reviews for this game
The pure hatred that people have for this game is insane. There are thousands of people who have never actually played this game in their life, but they still spent time give this a 1 out of 10 on metacritic
I remember back during game awards season, there was a “fan favorite” category where people could go online and vote for their favorite game that year. Well TLOU2 had a nice lead for a while, but people on Reddit actually banded together and mass voted for Ghost Of Tsushima just so TLOU2 wouldn’t win it
And then they would say s*** like “SEE, the people have spoken!! Sony just paid off the reviewers, real gamers know TLOU2 isn’t game of the year!”

I don't look for reviews I was just so taken aback by the fact that something like
Minecraft. Skyrim, Half-Life, Zelda, MGS
WHATEVER
Doesn't even have CLOSE to that number of ratings
At that point it's not even about if its high or low, that's just being evil for no reason
All these games COMBINED don't even have close to 100k user ratings
TLOU2 has 162k
I never seen this before so it's all surprising to me my bad if I'm very late

Trust me when I say that this game brought out the absolute worst in the gaming community.
There is a subreddit that’s only existence is dedicated to just s***ting on this game, as well as being transphobic and misogynistic
And 3 years later that subreddit is still thriving
That’s why I don’t even bother debating this game with anyone who hasn’t actually played it, because a lot of people formed their opinions on the game from other people instead of playing it for themselves

I seen that before actually I just thought it was some circle jerk and I was fw it
Then I seen they are 100% serious
Neil is always in some controversy man I swear
Crying all the quotes are telling him to kill himself

The funniest part of it is that the game is arguably the most well crafted single player game of all time
People expected some storybook narrative with absolutely 0 shock value or risk. I loved how it subverted expectations.

Sequel to gamer gate
Story to gameplay disconnect critique
Ellie a cold blooded killer the entire time and magically regrets it all in the final cutscene
Who says she “magically” regrets everything?
I see it more as she came to a realization that killing Abby isn’t bringing Joel back and isn’t going to fix anything at all
The cycle of violence will just continue , and Lev would just come after Ellie afterwards. Then Dina comes after Lev …etc etc

Wait when you say final cutscene , you are talking about when she puts the guitar down and walks out of the house ?
When she comes back to an empty home, and also lost her last connection to Joel because she can’t play guitar anymore?

It still deals with the disconnect with gameplay. Majority of the gameplay forces you to be a killer. It's fun to be a killer. The gameplay wants you to kill abby
I was supposed to platinum this this year, got stuck with a bunch of Ratchet Clank games instead lol
Man I always interpreted the ending as Ellie realizing that a lot of the hatred she projected on Abby was actually for herself because she cutoff Joel and took him being there for granted. That's why the game shows the scene of them beginning to reconcile at the end, by the time she was ready to take her first step to forgiving him it was too late
the way this game is still so divisive is wild
interested to see how it continues to age
i think we'll eventually see people view it as one of the most captivating and influential games of the modern era tbh

It’s really not that wild its goal is to traumatize the player .

i mean in the sense there are still people who vehemently hate the game and people who love it regardless of if the game was made to "traumatise" the player or not

I am saying a large part of why it is still discussed is its goal and design. After a gaming year like this the talk of "this was the last good game" should be dead and gone. Especially with the amount of crunch and budget it took to make this. Making games like this to rouse a debate for 3 going on 4 years isn't sustainable nor as impactful if long term it leads to lay offs and so many trying to be this game rather than be themselves
Still wish we saw Factions 2 to see more of the story and fill in the gaps. That would make me much more supportive of the game. The continuously acting like this game was the coming of Christ or any recent game is . Is part of why there will always be debate
Its time ?
I wonder if people read the whole article where he was quoted talking about it before spitting this virtue signaling stuff
