I think the difference is the violence you have a problem with serves a purpose in the story here vs red dead imo. You’re supposed to feel icky and gross about it.
Ellie becomes completely unlikable for me due to the violent path she takes and you see the repercussions of that path
TLOU2 deserves to be included among the greatest oat that s*** not hyperbole
Red Dead even though I just started but any story focused on " go to location kill this person" or revenge. I am kind of gassed out on. I grew up on GTA San Andreas, Shadow of the Colossus, MGS3, Splinter Cell. Like I have done that to many degrees. I commend them for giving enemies names, faces, habits, all of those things but around the time of The Last of Us 1 I stopped viewing violence as worth the story we see in most video games. Bioshock Infinite was cool cause like hordes of terrible humans lol. But even then it becomes what did I just do in the game . Joel even with his level of torture in game 1 became some what unlikable especially because he could admit to himself he cares about Ellie stop the mission and never see the fireflies again. Like her dying was always a possibility. so him getting there to brutally murder everyone was like "okay" . But give it to them
Just saying if I was h**** in the apocalypse those hole things on the bloater might be kind of tempting

You of course. Bloater probably wasn’t a kid Cudi fan.
Stealth playthrough el chapo will finally see the light
I am going to try . I just don't like day time stealth at all unless its goofy logic like Hitman cause its hard to tell what distance they can see you from. When splinter cell added daytime missions
. hitman absolution
. Splinter Cell mark and execute system
. When games added a button to kill mutliple enemies like that is when I began to get drained lol. Vats is cool to some degree but around 2013 I was like "damn these kills dont even got a feeling to them". Then I took a break from gaming from like 2016 to 2022 so getting back into it.
@davey that's a god awful take. Holy s***

MGS really one of the only games that rewards you for being stealthy or non lethal that is interesting
Edit: Dishonored too

That is a huge part of what I have been saying as someone who grew up on stealth games . They train your brain to play a certain way. If I kill everyone on a mission in Splinter Cell there is the feedback of alarm system. If I kill people in GTA and someone sees police . Snake Eater was my s*** for that reason. If they continue along the path I hope they lean into it more I guess. MGS V ( havent beaten but cool component of not killing them because you can recruit them). The dopamine hit of killing a video game character just goes down over prolonged time lol

Games throughout most major game stories that I have loved always have some sort of feedback loop so when you lower the feedback loop while telling me what I am doing is bad or cycles of violence. I already know that :koolaid: . I have seen it in Shadow of Colossus, MGS3 the river distinct. I think if they make stealth play more rewarding and fun in game 3 then they win me back. If in later levels of the game there are less enemies because you snuck by in earlier portion or they don't know what you look like or what to expect or you can develop stealth skills, camo, something. I can't think of an game I have gotten into where its just kill in a while. Call of duty :homersleep: . Maybe gears of war but again thats like 10 years.

Yeah I played mgs3 my first play through the River part took forever bc I sucked at the game so I was constantly getting caught and murdering everyone over and over lmao
Idk maybe give dishonored a try. You aren’t expected to kill anyone if you don’t want to and it does affect the game as you go on

First person stealth I sometimes like sometimes don't. Deathloop and Dishonored on my list. I don't hate on the last of us 2. I think the central message of empathy is important. Wonder how best they will accomplish it in tv show. I just don't want to slight like gaming didn't have some great stories before The Last of Us 1 and 2. In recent memory though stories have definitely weakened by not wanting to alienate or challenge their audiences. Same reason Konami pushed Kojima more out. Splinter Cell went more action oriented then got shelved. Assassins creed 15 or whatever they are on lol.
The profound cute experiences have kind of shifted to indie stories it seems. I started Death Stranding though don't know how they will squeeze it into a movie but I like the idea of a game with a weird out there story.
