I am the furthest thing from a Joeler lol I thought he deserved to die end of game 1\. Viewed end of game 1 like he has Ellie hostage and basically just sees sarah. Lol I had a dark view of game 1 . Felt like Ellie even if she never figured out this lie if she wanted to go out on her own or grow up he wouldn't let her . I really viewed the ending of 1 as he snapped entirely not a loving father figure or hero like most

You gotta play 2 bro I see how you get that view but they obviously elaborate on all of that substantially I do respect that view on the ending of 1 and I like that it’s so ambiguous that you can read it hopefully or darkly honestly a goat video game ending up there with Bioshock Infinite

I agree discourse around 2 does suck. But I mean with how gruesome the Joel kill is it was inevitable. Some of the level of violence throughout the game is graphically done to a shock value level. it was inevitable. Same way some crave the violence or are like "nah this story doesn't hit without the headshot or watching them bleed out". I think most of what I know from 2 feels cool

I think the difference is the violence you have a problem with serves a purpose in the story here vs red dead imo. You’re supposed to feel icky and gross about it.
Ellie becomes completely unlikable for me due to the violent path she takes and you see the repercussions of that path
TLOU2 deserves to be included among the greatest oat that s*** not hyperbole
