I didn’t hate Kathleen I just hated the time they wasted on her that could’ve been spent on other s***. Like if the season was 15 episodes fine but this s*** is 10 hours.
Her character was a little too hamfisted but yeah more dislike her because of wasted time. Her writing definitely wasn't great. She felt like a horror movie character and end of episode 5 was just a lot made me be like "why isn't Joel shooting her "

What do you think of season overall ?
I like it overall, very few misses and there's a good amount of quality additions. While the show is good, the game is still the "definitive experience," but I didn't expect the show to replace that anyway. I'm excited for the part 2 seasons, those will very interesting. Wbu?

about the same two different experiences. Think it nails it for show only watchers. Neither can replace each other and they add on to each other. Going into the show there are some ways I had hoped it would be able to show more angles, worldbuilding, notes, audiologs. But its still been a good run. Hope seasons 2 and 3 get that time to show or make more characters relevant either through cold opens or their own episodes. So that when they die, meet other characters or go through struggles it has weight. Some emotional moments feel somewhat less earned or unearned in show but I give it to them. I am glad people are f\*\*\*ing with it
Off topic but that made me think how will Abby handle the Rat King if they can't even take down bloaters
Pt2 spoilers
gotta think thru the lens of a show they don’t need to have abby kill the rat king, she can just run away from it, and get it trapped in fire or water or something

don't take away all boss battles
Especially when they could make for amazing moments. This is essentially what I am saying with this season too. Having desperate moments where it takes them everything to defeat something isn't just action. It is also telling of the story. There have been plenty of boss battles in tv and film so the idea of it being too game like is kind of silly versus just a tough encounter.
Imma save my hot take for the finale
This episode was decent. I’m really not trying to use predictability as a reason to not like this, or call it outstanding tv or whatever. That’s more or less a nitpick in most cases. I just thought this episode was pretty standard. I think this is an episode that could’ve been at least a 2-3 episode arc rather than cramming it all into 1 episode. Coming from me who has said the plot is moving pretty slow I know sounds like bs, but just speaking on this specific episode and this group. It would’ve benefitted from being fleshed out more imo.

Nope. I’ll probably start it once the season ends

PC Remake coming end of month or can get it on PS5. I don't know what your hot take is but based on what I have seen you say I think you will like the game better

Not taking away from your take as you’re ok to feel that way but tbh… this was the fleshed out version lol. In the game this section is approximately 50 minutes long. All that was missing was an infected fight and Joel killing about 20 extra people.
We got to see David’s village and more of him and his people here
Anyways
We all know final episode is 43 minutes so here’s how I think it’s gonna play out
How it is in game:
this sequence is about 50 minutes: giraffe, walk through tunnel, sneak through infected, almost drown in a river, knocked out by fireflies, hospital, ending
How I think it will be in show
giraffe, cut the walking through tunnel and infected (saves you 20 minutes and is very gamey this section and has no story), maybe trip on a rock in a river or something and have Joel swim after Ellie (I’m not a show writer this sounds stupid but whatever), Knocked out by fireflies, show Ellie’s mom back story, hospital, ending

Is the adulation for this show based on its accuracy to the game, or actually being good TV?

They already foreshadowed Joel killing someone’s father and the daughter wanting him dead

This episode makes many changes from the game. Many show only watchers are loving it but I do want you to get your hot take out because some show only watchers love it. Others at time find it cliche or are at times underwhelmed. Opinions are all over the place. As you hinted in your post you don't want to knock the show for feeling at times cliche, predictable or done before but rather judge it based on its execution. David's town and the daughter are parts added to the show to add more context to it to some degree. Did it work? that comes down to each person. Felt part foreshadow of whats to come to me
