Let me put it this way and no spoilers needed to say this. For some show watchers that we see in this very thread Neil and Craig struggled to make feel the bond between Joel and Ellie. Enough for the conclusion they came to in this season. I spent the beginning of the thread mentioning Man on Fire, 24( not greatest example), Children of Men, Leftovers, 28 days later . S*** @rise_zero and I went back and forth with examples. That wasn't just me being a douchebag (sometimes it do look like that)

Its the fact that many of those are 2 hour movies or experiences that Arguably convey some of that connection feeling better in a 5th of the time. At times despite people in this thread putting down the Walking Dead this show felt like Walking Dead( Kathleen and episode 5 action sequence 100% felt like it didn't belong here). David although I liked religious add him breaking down his villainy or even show only saying Marlene waking up the one man that can stop her before the procedure to tell him that he can still stop her.

There were plenty of good changes throughout the season don't get me wrong but season 2 isn't game 2 it doesnt have the benefit of "I want to beat this game and trophy will show whether I beat or watched online summary" . I am actual kind of for some changes to make it better for the medium and show more lore or things we don't know. Some of the ripped straight from the game things worked others didn't

An entire subsection of humans have spent 3 years mad about the story to 2\. TV show watchers can literally just stop watching if they think writing is bad or if it doesn't deliver the high they want or they can skip episodes. We have seen them do it with countless other shows lol which if you dont make fundamental changes they will. Some show watchers will be like yes I get Ellie wanting revenge for Joel but if the main concern has been "their connection didn't feel fully earned yes seeing her get medicine from david group was one thing but travel across the country to honor him in a world with more infected and dina needs some tweaks. That is all. Because its not about for you know the story

I am glad they had the cold opener at least but it seems very few found the cold opener convincing enough to trust or care about Marlene

when I first saw her running through woods in trailer I can't lie I doubted her cause facial reactions looked off but in the house she did great. My hot take is that Pedro this episode didn't have a ground breaking moment I wanted. The looking at Ellie after suicide moment was cool but the central reveal of the brain surgery moment felt off and the lie itself

I think it really added a lot at least for me knowing what happens next.

I made you a Marlene fan so the pages we made along the way were worth it

SEASON 2 AND 3 give us more original for show only content though. Please but not hamfisting just recognizing you got more time to breathe. S*** you can entirely change some parts of 2 in my mind as long as meaning the same. I am less attached to most of the gameplay parts of 2
