this end of season is baffling tbh, the character evolution of Ellie is botched in a way that defeats the purpose of her whole history, I don’t understand how they thought what they went with was enough… Another episode would have probably done wonders for that.
Also why the f*** did they have her shipwrecked on the island lmfao that was so unnecessary and a waste of time?

Agree with the 2nd part lol no clue what the point of that was besides showing the island before next season I guess.
It’s a scrapped idea they had from the game that was in concept art and in the documentary making of. They scrapped it due to not enough dev resources to crunch it out.
They included it for s***s and giggles here
"They included it for s***s and giggles here"
"They included it for s***s and giggles here"
That’s my way of saying it makes no sense and why did they do it lol
This show sucks man
Hell yeah p**** bacon I also agree this show rocks
Hated Mels death. Should have been deliberate not some accident.
ellie having only a few skillful kills against actual ppl this season 💔 and she crying in front of abby & s***. show is cooked

I haven’t been keeping up or watching weekly but just saw that clip on Twitter
what are they doing
I wanted to watch but that’s just
I haven’t had time to watch live unfortunately, so I’m catching up and only finished episode 3 (and I’ve never played the game)
But so far I gotta say the most disappointing thing by far is that they took the biggest step back in terms of stakes in a plot from season to season I think I’ve ever seen in a TV series— you go from Season 1 where the stakes are literally trying to find a way to save mankind and resurrect modern civilization…to a revenge plot

Did you just want them to make every season them trying to find a cure then

That’s how I felt playing the first to the second game then I finished the second game and …
oh god I want to replay it again
This show is… just “good” after 2 seasons. But not amazing.
To be clear, TLOU is an all timer video game / story for me. PII is legitimately a top 5 video game all time for me.
The problem with this show, is it’s like they said, “instead of creating and writing story of the travel of this journey and adapting that feeling of a journey in a game to a journey in a show, let’s just skip all of that and show them a highlight reel of all the massive story beats”… because to me, as a lover of the game, that’s what this show feels like to me. It feels like a “TLOU super cut”.
In that finale episode, for example… Ellie leaving Jesse go find a boat and then travelling to the aquarium. That should’ve been an entire episode. Instead, Ellie of the show sort of just fast travels there… and then fast travels back to the theatre. All this fast travelling is totally failing to capture the gruesome, bleak, slog of a trip this is.
Also, what was up with them putting Ellie on the Seraphite Island for 3 minutes???? That was legitimately bad writing.
behind an episode but agree 100%.
funny enough it feels like the later seasons of GOT

TLOU has always been about personal conflicts and relationships, the apocalyptic setting is just a backdrop to those stories.
Don’t think of the show as a big spectacle with big stories, it’s main focus has always been the personal relationships
Wish we got more fights with infected and people. I get why they had less in season 1 but the 2nd game is so much more violent. Didn’t really feel like it was in the show. Also agree I don’t like how they took Mel out in the show.
Just let Neil direct more of season 3.
Per Variety / The Wrap
Season 2 of TLOU gathered 37 Million Global viewers per episode
Compared to season 2 of HOTD which gathered 25 million global viewers per episode

Yeah usually this is what I gravitate towards more than plot (for example, I’m one of the people that’s always defending White Lotus as being brilliant for its focus on characters and I don’t really care too much about the plot in that show)
But I guess with TLOU, it’s just way more difficult for me to have the plot just sit in the background after I found it to be so fascinating in the first season. For me, when you have a plot that big in scope (like GoT) it’s impossible to ignore
But again I’m only 3 episodes in, and while again the overarching plot isn’t super exciting, I’ve still found the overall writing/acting/production to continue being top notch. I’m still definitely enjoying it

Honestly, I feel part of the way this season turned out the way it did was due to a course correction of the initial loud negative reception Part II received from release. A lot of changes that were made to varying qualitative degrees that ultimately doesn't please many people unfortunately
behind an episode but agree 100%.

It really does lol
@SOLARIS earlier in the season had the most succinct take and true take I’ve seen and it continued to be true each week. That it kinda feels like a show that has the external, macro level look and feel of a must-see, medium-peak prestige show, but underneath it at the actual core, it isn’t doing anything to really earn that heftiness

Season 3 soon brother
