I could never get into Sumac the same way as Isis tho, like for me Sumac would be a perfect EP band. I think they improvise most of their songs so its always a tricky balance.

old school metal guitar tones are wayyyyyy better than contemporary metal guitar tones

I feel you, modern tones always sound a bit too clean, even when they are hi gain. I like gnarly guitars better tbh
